discuss Huge Domains using Dropcatch for aged domains

I recently lost a backorder on an aged domain (nothing new for many of us). I had placed a backorder in a couple of places but was still hesitant to use Snapnames after the HAlvarez scandal of several years back. I also disliked having domains at dozens of registrars which happened when using Snapnames. Name.com consolidates those into one platform which facilitates the administration. So I only used Name.com and Namejet but it turned out Dropcatch caught the name. I noted recently that I had found some instances where HugeDomains was placing low bids on Godaddy Auctions for some aged expiring domains. Apparently they are also using Dropcatch as this name is now for sale at HugeDomains. Anyway, I guess if you want to compete with HugeDomains you cannot be complacent.

HugeDomains, DropCatch, and NameBright are all owned by the same person/company.

That is a clear conflict of interest - offering a backorder service when your primary business is selling aftermarket domain names. It seems I had read about some individuals using a service to backorder domains and that HugeDomains always won - but did not recall the name of the service. Perhaps they were referring to DropCatch. I guess I may have to resort to Snapnames or look for another service.

I recently got beat on another backorder where Dropcatch caught the name. However, I am still not comfortable with the idea of placing backorders using a service affiliated by the owner of HugeDomains. My concern is they may use the placement of a backorder as a signal to capture the name for themselves. But it does appear their service is good at competing with other backorder services.

I agree. It could be throwing up a flag for them to take another look at the domain.
And yes someone else had a similar issue with HugeDomains, DropCatch, and NameBright.
This is the problem with old-school domainers running companies that compete with their current customers. Don't give them your business!
