Hello,
4 days ago requested an Auth. Code transfering one of my domains. Here is the answer:

Dear Borislav Varlov,

You recently requested an auth code to transfer your "DOMAIN NAME" domain name.
Your request has been processed and at this time it has been declined due to recent suspicious activity in your account.

Register.com is committed to providing the most secure and reliable domain services for our customers.
We have implemented specific security measures to help prevent unauthorized transfer of domains to another registrar.
The type of suspicious activity that could have caused your request to be declined includes:
- Multiple failed attempts to login to customer's account
- Recent changes to the account holder's name, email address, or login ID
- Attempts to access the account over the phone without authorization
- Recent changes to the accounts password
- Domain name lock not removed
- Recent changes to billing or credit card information

To receive your auth code, please call one of our customer service consultants at 1.888.734.4783. They will confirm you to the account and then fulfill your request.

Thank You,

Sandy Ross
EVP, Customer Service
Register.com

None of the reasons above are true. Security? ... Unbelievable!
Think twice before use them as registrar.

Regards,
Borislav

They have chat support. I had a similar situation some time ago but everything was resolved (I've got the auth. code) via the chat.
Hope it helps.

Did they give any explanation ?

Typical from them.
Try again later.

Recently I requested auth codes for two domains, they sent the auth code for the first domain and denied the second one lol.

Going by this thread i will never use them

We have a couple domains at register.com, only because it's prerelease domains won through Snapnames.
Needless to say, they won't stay at register.com. There is a bouncer inside the house and he won't let you out lol.

Similar situation here, caught a domain via snapnames.com that was at register.com, eleven months later tried to transfer it out, with no luck - later the domain expired, reactivation fee was ridiculously high, so I ended up catching it again after deletion. Luckily it didn't catch anyone else's eye, even though it was a fine generic dotcom from 1999 - just not in English. :)

Recently they sent us two auth codes as required, after something like 5 days. One is incorrect and they are in no hurry to respond.

I find this very strange. I am actually a partner with Register.com for some of their services. I have always found them to have very good customer support. If anyone has any issues, feel free to let me know. Ive always been able to request EPP code by clicking a link from inside my account. The code is emailed to the registrant's email address within minutes. Not to mention my pricing with them is cheaper than godaddy for the extensions i use most. I personally keep many important domains there.

Forgot to mention that now they are denying the auth code for the usual 'suspicious activity' reason. All I'm asking is the correct auth code since they got it wrong the first time.

I have dealt with many registrars due to domain acquisitions but register.com is the only registrar that is giving me so much hassle.

By the way, we get frequent phone calls from them including courtesy reminders for domains near expiration, they all go to VM.

Hey guys, with all that "problems" and restrictions the Rigiser.com seems to be a nice registrar when you're thinknig if your names could be stollen.
Sorry for the wrong English language constructions :)

You bet, even the rightful holder is denied access to the domain :)

As I have mentioned. If you have any issues with them feel free to let me know via PM. I am sure there are some things I can do to help you out and make you feel a little more positive about the place. I am partnered with them for some of their services. I don't understand why you cannot get your EPP code when I can login to my control panel, click a link, and have the EPP automatically sent to my email in 2 minutes. Perhaps I am using a different interface.

It's very possible. I am using the standard interface, you can request the auth code but it says it will be dispatched to you within 5 days. Indeed, it takes them roughly 5 days to provide the auth code (or deny it). Why 5 days I wonder ?
Security ? No kidding. I can't stand their BS excuses. See post #5, that is so ridiculous.

I don't trust them for a number of reasons, this is just one of the reasons. The only reason why we have domains stuck with them is because they were acquired through Snapnames.
Thanks for your help.

Was considering using that $2 deal Register.com has going on. After reading this thread I don't think I will.

I have lost control for some my domains on register.com (just forget to renew them in time and for one I didn't receive Auth code when it was still in official paid period) and now I'm very badly surprised for Renew costs (10 usd for one year with promo and 25usd for "Service Fee One Time Fee").
Are they crazy to do it for domains that expired several days ago?
Is it 2013 or 199x on their calendar?
I'm happy to have there only several my domains (probably will renew and run from them).... It's radiculous to pay them 25usd extra.
I don't have such terms with any other registrar.

Registrar may lose accreditation for failing to provide transfer authorization code

They also did bad things with me !
I wait for 5 days and after that they sent me wrong auth code
It's so bad !
:(
so I can't transfer my domain now !!! :O

They are making transfer process become very difficult/ provide wrong auth code = violate ICANN rule !!!

I think this is the time to report this to ICANN
http://www.icann.org/en/contact
http://www.icann.org/en/groups/board

Mr. Chehade is President and CEO of ICANN

I'm sure that there have so many people met this case at "registrar" register.com
If you meet similar case, you can report it to ICANN !

Registrar may lose accreditation for failing to provide transfer authorization code

PacNames didn’t provide AuthInfo code within 5 days, according to breach notice.

ICANN is threatening to cancel accreditation of New Zealand domain name registrar PacNames Ltd for the registrar’s failure to provide a domain transfer out code.

In a breach notice dated June 10 (pdf), ICANN says PacNames has repeatedly failed to provide copies of written communications between the registrar and the registrant of AnimeInfo.net.

It appears that the domain registrant is upset over not receiving an AuthInfo code to transfer his domain to another registrar. ICANN claims Pacnamaes filed to provide the code within 5 days.

PacNames also owes $1,000 in past due accreditation fees, according to the letter.

In other compliance news, a couple domain registrars have recently cured their breaches. Both Dattatec and DomainSnap have cured their breaches.

I would believe it is someone with nothing to do throwing mud over a company only if one person would say it but seral posters say the same so it is more than logical than a register giving away registrations to 50 cents left and right one moment or the other will squeeze the lacking dollars from the customers in the ways that have been described. The lesson I have learned from all this is not everything shining is gold.

I do not think you are helping sir, with the due respect. Nothing you or anyone says will change my mind or the mind of those hurted by these outlaws. The mentioned registrar is quite dead for me and I am not going to register anything with them, even if they say they will pay me 2 bucks for each domain.

Hi snowbird, this is good to see someone like you on here to help us. I need to contact you as we are having the same problem with them, they refuse to return calls and refuse to give us any authorization code because we wont pay them anymore as they kept taking money out of our credit card over a month and we haven't been able to use the web hosting to publish any website! We are pretty angry and upset, as we want our domain name back but they have suspended it. That bouncer inside wont let us out and its making us angry, we have reported them to icann. We just want to get away from them and transfer our domain name to another web hosting company that is much kinder to us. Is there any way you can help us?

Chelle,

I sympathize with your difficulties with Register.com. Please keep in mind that the post I have made in this thread is about 2 years old and that their interface has changed over time. I will however send you a PM and try to offer some form of help. However, please keep in mind I do not work for Register.com, but rather offer some services from them as a partner. Therefor you may need to talk with them directly to get a satisfactory resolution.
