GoDaddy is a greedy monopoly. We are going to have to raise prices or vote against GD and use any viable alternatives that present themselves. Everyone loses but GoDaddy.

Yes. The new structure will be a flat 15% or 25% depending on where nameservers are pointed at the time of sale, regardless of price.
Sales through platforms like efty.com which used to give 5% commissions to dan.com. Is that also increased or sales through efty.com landing pages will remains the same 5%?

There was a consensus on NP that Dan.com would increase prices within a year of being sold to GoDaddy; we all have been proven correct.

I'm tired of Godaddy increasing prices to pay for acquisitions. Yet, I'm not upset with GoDaddy, because they are in the business of making money.

Its the job of consumers and competitors to ensure monopoly is defeated.

Ultimately, more domainers with larger portfolio begin to build their own sales landing pages, its much cheaper than sharing 15-25% commission to a platform.

Everything in this world is supply and demand. All these comments are water off a ducks back to them . The only way to change something is act with your feet and walk away. Move to a lower commission site or have your own landing pages. These big companies with massive overheads cannot survive without the customers. So if your really unhappy walk away and force a change
if domainers didn't move their names from epik after the masterbucks event, they are not about to do anything.

Seen this repeat over and over again. Big company buys little company and starts breaking things. And during the acquisition the little company tells its customers, everything will stay the same, but it's all just lip service just to keep their customers from leaving.

Actually, the Afternic decreased from 20% to 15%.

I'm actually not too torn up about this. While I don't like increases, I think 15% is actually pretty fair. 9% was real nice but an increase was not unexpected. I'll just keep that in mind when it comes to pricing.

All my domains are either Afternic/Dan landing pages and now with the distribution network, that goes down from 20% to 15%.

I understand those that don't have those landing pages will now go up to 25% if I'm reading that correctly. That's just their way to move people over to their platform, to get that 15% instead of 25%.

I'm still paying for Efty, so I could always switch it back to those landing pages in the future. But right now I like the ease and reach of Dan/Afternic.
That decrease will only benefit sales amounting to $5K or lower.

Godaddy don't want to leak traffic to its competitors. that's why increased commission for external platforms.

However, it affects dan sellers mostly. 9% to 15% & 25% is harsh move.

Yeah - @Sedo could help facilitate it by dropping their commission to 9% if we point our domains to their landers :xf.wink:

And don't forget the best one... increase from 15% to 25% commission if you are not using their landers.

I really ask (myself) a question... do Godaddy have a clue about Anti-monopoly policies? Because when you have a product (afternic commission on sales through Godaddy or their reseller network) and increase the price a 10% just because you are not using one of their services (pointing a landing page to their DNS servers) it sounds to me like a big MONOPOLY move.
it's not from 15% to 25% if you dont use their lander, it's from 9% to 25% !!!

Let's once again positively remember DAN.com for all the wonderful years when it charged us relatively little commission. With these low commissions DAN has grown fast and this has paid off for the investors.

For the most common sales amounts, the new commission model seems to work out slightly more favorably for sales through Afternic than through DAN. There are a few corner cases, though.

I'm very curious to see the impact on other marketplaces.

I've been using domain.io for a lot of my domains, mostly for the HTTPS landers. I guess I'll need to make a new Dan account and move them there if I want to have HTTPS and a reasonable commission now.

If Afternic would just provide HTTPS and any kind of stats for my domains I'd be so happy. 15% commission is an improvement for me at the prices I sell for.

Good news for Sedo. Those who used afternic exclusively or somewhat exclusively, will now consider switching at least non-English domains to Sedo, or those domains where the potential buyers are more likely outside U.S. due to one reason or another. Since such buyers do not have a preference to use GoDaddy, it would be safe move. And, what if other domains will follow, whole portfolios leaving? Did GD think about this?

But, they'll take 15% instead of 20% thru the distribution network...for most sales.

So it'll be do I get more sales thru direct vs. distribution network, which should increase since I just enabled it.

If that's pretty much even, then this basically cancels each other out, won't really be that much difference. Paying 6% more (direct) vs. paying 5% less (distribution network). Also, easier to figure out, 15% flat rate vs. percentage plus dollar amount

Getting rid of the tiered system makes no sense, even if 15% is the starting point.
It would just go from 15% to 10% instead of 20% to 15% to 10%.

It would not effect the vast majority of my sales, but I am not just thinking about myself.

Nope... check it again...

Before it would be $11,500 ($4,000 +10% of amount over $25k).

Now it would be a flat $15,000
That's $3,500 more (or $3,500 less for you) (y)

By the way, on the same $100K sale, you would be charged $890 at Escrow.com... vs the $15,000 at Aftenic :oops:

Under the current system on a $100K sale you pay $11,500.
It is $4K for the first $25,000 then $7,500 for the other $75,000.

Under the new system it would be $15,000.

So that is $3,500 more on a $100K sale.

If domain is not pointing to any name servers (null NS). โ€ฆ whatโ€™s the % ?
Great question that I hadn't considered - but you won't get the discounted commission if you're not using one of the following nameservers:
  • afternic.com
  • smartname.com
  • uniregistrymarket.link
  • dan.com
  • undeveloped.com
  • internettraffic.com
  • cashparking.com
