Welcome to another round of the Daily Dose! Here I will give you a dose to ease your domain addiction! Today the dosage is all numerical! The market has recently spiked and one of the more consistent players is now numbers. I spent some time researching and I have found quite a few 6N .com's (370 of them!) with only quality numbers like 2,3,6,7,8,9! And the best part? They are all available at REG FEE! :) The future is unpredictable (is it really?)… yet with the way the market is going, it can't hurt to own a few of these at reg fee! Good luck!

for $1k?? yet Keith seems to believe $20 is reasonable...Many more better names in the mid XXXX arena...The 5N's are getting flipped back and forth because they're in bubble. The vast minority will not be used or developed for real business's and eventually they will top out one they reach a saturation point, just like a bad pyramid scheme.

I agree that we're experiencing a bubble but I still disagree about ZOYB being a good deal. :P

That's the second time "bubble" is mentioned. There isn't a bubble against one particular area of domains where .com is involved. It's all or none.

We've seen many bubbles over the years in particular niches...
Nah.

Maybe very temporary but .com values are soaring across the board. Look at all the categories. Listen to this, the market is so strong that folks are buying 6N now. It's hard to believe but true!

Zoyb is a great name for a startup or app compared to something like 64839 :xf.wink:

Wrong again...it simply isn't a case of all or nothing, you have to look at the reasoning behind a specific area of the market.

1) People buy keyword rich domains because with SEO they can produce traffic to increase revenue for a company on the DEVELOPED domain.

2) The "brandable" market could be considered different as the end user has different expectations when purchasing, they don't care about domain age, PR, traffic etc...they like the name and believe that the made up, short and pronounceable word has positive connotations and reflects well with the product or service they wish to provide on their DEVELOPED domain.

3) The numeric market is again different, consisting on people who merely speculate by way of purchasing a domain which has very little intrinsic value and selling to another domainer

There are probably more sectors, but to simply disregard the obvious and state that just because its a .com then that's ok is short sighted at best.

It's very much all or nothing. That's why the stock market, as a whole, fluctuates as one. Dot com is similar. While certain areas come to light quickly, like 4N values, most other areas gain along the way.

That said, junk is always junk. Zoyb is junk.

Head in the sand...Sectors within the stock market fluctuate because of unique forces that effect only them. Oil companies suffer when $ per barrel goes down, Insurance sector suffers when new tighter legislation is brought in, Travel sector suffers if there's a major disaster like a plane crash...the point is you can't just look at any single market movement without objectively evaluating the forces that effect it.

Yes the market as a whole fluctuates but normally in relation to the economy or a combination of a number of constituent factors that have a negative impact on multiple sectors at once e.g. housing bubble in 2008.

The domain market will fluctuate to an extent based on the economy but most people who invest will continue but it could still have an effect in a climate of austerity as there would in general be less disposable income to go around so hobbyists like myself will only spend $3 on hand reg's a week and not $5 :xf.grin:

The point is there are many niches with the .com sector and all have various forces working in both directions. If you watch the news and see that house prices are rising you don't automatically go out and think "great, I'm gonna go buy a house!" ...you would have to evaluate everything.

Some areas may be up and coming whilst others may not due to a factory closing or excess condos in a particular neighborhood which has lead to stagnant growth in that particular SECTOR and so a net fall in price when taking into consideration inflation despite news reports of a national rise.

Really don't know how else to explain it....some people cant see the wood through the trees...goodnight

I'm not looking for a lesson or explanation. I get the domain market just fine.

Some people buy stock with the intent to hold forever. Same with domains. They want to own the asset for the sake of owning it. I like to make money now or as soon as possible. 6N doesn't fit my scenario.

Come back to this thread in 1-2 years. I'm sure we'll have a good laugh either way...
The majority of 6N investors will be crying but I guess that's the majority of domain investors in general. Few get it, most don't.

This is such a silly statement. I'm been rolling through the xN's the whole way. I've bought and sold 3N to buy 4N to buy 5N and now to buy 6N.

You can certainly disagree with my "guestimations", but to suggest I don't get it... Well, that's just utter silliness.
Instead of saying I don't believe you, I'll say you're working opposite of everyone else.

While you're selling 3N to ultimately buy 6N, we are all buying and selling whatever N to buy 3N and maybe 4N. You're working backwards if you're being honest.

One of the many 5N discussions you can find. People wouldn't bother with the reg fee, just as recent as 2 years ago. Obviously, $24 in renewals later, you're pay $x,xxx for them.

Even with 4's, these $65 would be worth over $6k today.

"If its a ZIP code, it has a value. Otherwise I don't see value in any NNNNN.com domain" ... from 2012.

Between here and other domain sites that were more popular a few years back, there's plenty of discussions.

definitely a good one.
Year after year are the keywords of your post. Most people reading this thread or those getting duped into buying 6N won't be around year after year. How about hyping something that makes people money now? Or is that area a secret that you'd rather keep to yourself ;)

Flips today are nice, but an investment in the future and buying good 6n today could mean a nice return on your investment. A well chosen 6n can also mean a nice return today as well. I agree that buying domains that are profitable now and investing a little more cash is also a great strategy, if you can get a good deal.

The thing that sets numeric domains apart from "trends" is the staggering amount that has been spent on 3N and 4N's. When people are spending big money on a broad type of domains, they tend to be tastemakers / trendsetters that don't want to see the value of their acquisitions go down the toilet.

If decent 5n's are going for 7k - 8k at auction prices today, that should indicate that 6N's may fetch $2k - $3k within the next 16 - 24 months. If you have been looking over the past few weeks, even solid 7N's are becoming hard to secure.

Buyers are investing for 7N speculation today, so getting a few decent 6N today is a good idea. But they should fit very specific criteria that fits with the early buying trends.

I think you are spot on about many things that you have said, but leave a little room for the future prospects and market growth.

I would wager that the best numbers are long gone and people are snapping up numbers that are of no interest to the Chinese that would buy them (having grown up knowing which numbers were auspicious and probably already hold most of them). Doesn't mean people won't be able to feed on the scraps and flip them for profit though, just that there probably won't be many single domain big scores.

You can apply it to any other niche LLL.com, NNN.com, 1 word.com, you name it with the same result - "the best numbers are long gone" and what majority of people in this business do right now is "feed on the scraps trying to flip them for profit". But there's always opportunity for folks who know how to extract value.

I think it is very hard to ignore the $xxxx sales of good letter combinations, and the fact that there is such strong underlying demand and momentum from Chinese buyers.

There are still some repeating number/pattern combos remaining that are good value to be had at $15-$20 in the resale market. I doubt that will remain the case as demand outstrips supply.

As many have said, we were having the same discussion 2-3 years ago with NNNNN domains when NNNN value really took off.

0 and 1?

I think I seen that 0 at the beginning isn't so good but 0 at the end is good. Just bought 06260...

Yup zero at the end is good just like $1000 is one thousand dollars and $0001 is one dollar, i know its a absurd explanation but it is that way.

1 is same as 2 easy. sorry i missed that. couldn't edit the post.

06260 .com is good domain and i think i saw it somewhere and i was one of the bidder.
Though this domain has no meaning in itself but 5N's make money :)

I'm sharing a post which I read today :

This great report from Verisign from the last quarter of 2014 says that there are over 288,000,0000 (read: 288 millions) domain names registered in the world. On the other hand, there are only 676 two letter .com combinations, 17,576 three letter combinations and 456,976 four letter .com combinations. But beyond that, there are 11,881,376 five letter .com domain names (most of them still available) and 308,915,776 six letter .com domain names - that is - more than the sum of all domain names ever registered by mankind. Seven letter .com domain combinations are over 8 billions - supposedly more than the number of all human beings alive in this moment.

308,915,776 six letter .com domain names

vs 1,000,000 six number .com domains.

It's an interesting perspective on them.

... But comparing them to the number of people completely misses the fact that people are using them as currency and investment vehicles. Unless there's something specific in the .com TOS that specifically states people are only supposed to buy domains that they intend to use for development. ;)
