Cutting shape out of logo...

Hey guys,

I have a logo here basically as it's our football (soccer) site we need to redesign our logo. The badge on the left of the logo needs to be kept though and I want to know if there is an easy way to cut it out?

I've got Paint, Photoshop CS, Gimp, Paint Shop Pro. I'm not very good at the graphics side of the web so I'm looking for a little hint a quick guide or could you point me in the right direction.

This sounds like a job for Magic Wand Tool!
It's one of the most useful tools in photoshop.
