We know that many companies are gearing up and funding their mobi developments, but I am curious.....
are there any NPers putting their own mobi projects funding together?
Like going after venture capital or other outside funding sources?

Good, Scandi, I knew you would be. I am in process of putting a major mobi development campaign together this summer and fall. Will be putting up around 60 to 100 sites with full blown marketing efforts to support. People might be surprised to know that the investment interest from private capital is VERY high in regards to mobi ! Just put the word out if you need funding. The available info resources will sell the overall mobi concept and then you can fine tune it with your own personal domain development strategies to close the deal.

Yes, I would imagine anyone making a few hundred a month now off their sites could make a plausible case that there'll probably be 100 fold more mobile web traffic within 5 years and hence 100 fold the potential profits with a well designed site :)

Absolutely! The amazing thing is that many investor types do NOT know much about domains, parking, site monetization, mobi, internet commerce in general. But mention all the backers for dotmobi, the new sites coming on board, throw in a comment about youtube (18 months and $1.7B sale) and other dotcom success stories and bingo .... attention is now peaked. No investor wants to miss the "next big thing"! And THAT, IMHO, is what mobi is. Gotta love it!!!

I have a few ideas that I will bring to fruition later in the year with regards to mobile.

Sounds to me like your blowing up a big bubble to burst. As you say...investors do not know. Will you mention to investors the dotcom failures as well? Of course not. As for investors missing the "next big thing"....hmm...sounds like a sales pitch to suckers imho.

Good luck though in convincing those angel investors to give you money. If you find any solid hardcore suckers please pass them on to me. I would love to find someone willing to invest $xxx, xxx into making a mobi site.

So would I B-) Let's face it, sucker or not, there always are people with more money than brains and what does it matter their intentions, as long as they give you their money

Something I can agree with.

We start with 100%

"How much percentage of ownership is relinquished" and is it worth it for this domain vs. myself are some of my initial concerns for cost/benefit analysis.

Now, of course, marketing funds and being a first mover are critical factors for timely growth..

Why not?

If you have alot of domains, it seems obvious that one day collecting even a small percentage from various sources is an ideal lifestyle..

I agree with the ascending trend of investor interest..

Generally, when I tell someone about Dot Mobi, they are appreciative; although, some of the techies still say with impulse "why do you need it?"

That seems to be the too often, first techie knee-Jerk reaction that has made this extension linger with available names for us for so long..

But for the general public, when talking to people, I think there are clearly very attractive things about .mobi: the backers.. and all their mobile phone commercials in your face (we know the corporate registrations and sites rising).. the perceived mobile internet revolution.. the phone at your side.. all make what's going on very exciting and the potential of this birth unprecedented in global history..

This "slow playing" pace early might be aiding its long term (non .com bubble burst) adoption.. with curbed expectations, it's like all the techie naysayers have had a function in the early testing of the extension's direction of focus, societal role and true glimmer..

Kind Regards,

Yelo

Seems to me that your assumption is for all investors to be ignorant and lacking intelligence. In the circles of influence that I run in, none could be accused of not being capable of garnering the facts and making informed decisions. All info, good and bad, is on the table to observe and analyze. It is usually the leaders with vision that make things happen. However, whether a leader, follower, optimist, pessimist, chocolate or vanilla ... there is room for all of us. As far as "hardcore suckers", I don't personally know any but I do observe some posts from time to time from those who might fit that category. :hehe:

"The available info resources will sell the overall mobi concept and then you can fine tune it with your own personal domain development strategies to close the deal." I find this statement to be right on the money. Mobi is an easy sell once you educate them a little bit.
