China will block .com's for a competive edge.

The above statement is just a prediction of mine. Blocking .com's for an unfair advantage over US company's would not be beyond them and it is definitely doable. Verisign does not even have a license to use or sell .com's in China, it was only tolerated. But that might change very soon (effective March 1, 2016)

Research MIIT, the Chinese government organization that regulates the internet and domain names in China. This has all been talked about for quite sometime, long before Google re-organized under abc.xyz (do some research for once). It was also well understood that .xyz and .club would be two of the first foreign registrars to get a license in China.

According to Daniel Negari, XYZ is the only U.S. registrar to apply for a license in China AND coordinate with ICANN about it. While a lot of .com loyalists have been bashing new GTLD's a lot of people have been in the background hand registering cheap domain names. A lot of large .COM portfolio holders already sold out and domain name news outlets are slowly easing on their criticism.

TheDomains was right, it will take an intense marketing campaign by at least 2 to 3 major brands. He mentions the Super Bowl as a good example and if you do some research, that is exactly what's happening.

Innovative companies love .xyz!
Itโ€™s a fact, innovative high tech companies love .xyz! From design apps to robots to even audio narrators, weโ€™ve have support from some of the most innovative companies.

Hereโ€™s a few of our favorites:

Are you an iPad user and love to sketch? Check out UMake.xyz the most popular 3D sketching app on the iPad Pro. Or, if you are looking for a cool way to deliver some products without going to your local UPS or Fedex, check out Starship.xyz, which was recently launched by the cofounders of Skype to provide local delivery services with the use of robot cars!

And thereโ€™s Lune.xyz, which is a super cool virtual reality company that uses an interactive application to take you to a new dimension. This means brands can provide their customers with interactive applications where they can experience, see, hear, touch, and smell products before they buy!

Thereโ€™s also Elon.xyz, a platform where users can submit articles, turn them into narrated audio recordings, and listen to them at their leisure. How cool is that? This tool can definitely help you stay up-to-date on your reading list or simply rest your eyes by listening instead. We also think that this is a great tool for our Chinese friends trying to practice their English.

Why are all these technology companies in love with .xyz? Because we are simple, memorable, and affordable. With .xyz, the opportunities are infinite and our goal is to create a global community inspired by the internet and its limitless potential. As we work towards our accreditation, we look forward to seeing many cool sites that our Chinese friends can create using their .xyz domains later this year.

If you are interested in checking out many other cool sites, please visit our website www.gen.xyz/live and www.gen.xyz/blog.

I have almost 200 .XYZ domain names, since I am not an expert at pricing domains per se, I am contacting professional domainers to help me price them.
So what you are saying is that you no idea how to appraise domains. You have no idea of domain value so you are relying on other people for your investment decisions. (Who are they I am wondering. What professional domainer would actually advise investing in .xyz...)

This is a recipe for disaster. I think you have been badly advised.
Maybe you are good at stocks, then you should stick to what works for you.
The problem is not to price domains (that have no buyers), the problem is to pick the right domains in the right extensions. You are not even there.

Part of the gap in our price perspectives is that I believe .xyz will eventually sell for .com prices, you don't so it's impossible for us to agree with each other.
In some alternate reality maybe :P

OFF TOPIC:
- What are your thoughts about IDNs. Verisign has a Japanese IDN and a Chinese IDN. What do you think will become of them?
That would deserve a thread of its own. IDNs have been around for a long time and there are still many practical problems (using them in web forms, for E-mail etc) so I tend to look at IDNs like gadgets. Maybe they will take off a bit in some markets, for example China. Aren't they using IDN.IDN domains in .cn ? Maybe not a lot... I do not have a lot of interest in IDNs and my insight is admittedly limited.

Back to the discussion, you have a fixation on .xyz and other domainers have an obsession with China lately. China is a major country but it's not the whole world.
If you are banking so heavily on Chinese demand perhaps you should be buying numerics or pinyin domains, and not only in .xyz. Buy .cn domains instead. ccTLDs are always relevant, while gTLDs come and go. That's why I invest a lot in ccTLDs but I stay far away from domain fads, of which .xyz is the epitome.

I have my own ideas but I want to compare them with people who have been buying and selling .com's. If you look around there are a handful of professional domainers who are starting to invest in .XYZ, I posted one of them earlier today.

The problem is not to price domains (that have no buyers), the problem is to pick the right domains in the right extensions. You are not even there.

We have a different investment philosophy. I decided to invest in domains once I read clues that the market was on the verge of shifting. It is major shifts like this that catch my attention (an excessive amount of GTLDs joining the scene and geopolitical realities threatening .COM).

I have picked moderately good domains in the right extension and I have a large enough portfolio to profit big and with a small investment.

We are still in the same place as we were before. You have zero .XYZ and I am gathering information to eventually sell (March 1st, March 10th, and .XYZs ICP license - these are important dates to pay attention to)

You've posted a few of what you think are your best domains. Care to post a few of the 'second tier' ones ?
Who are your advisers ? If you say they are professional domainers it must be people that we know.

I sent Zandibot a message. I don't know him personally but I hope he can give me some feedback. He bought 8888.xyz and runs a brokerage service so I am guessing he will be willing to communicate with me. That is the only well known domainers I have contacted so far.

Is it okay if asked you for information via PM about my portfolio? I don't want to post it publicly.

I never seriously ventured into domain names until I heard about Google re-organizing under abc.xyz (I was talking about me).

Kudos for being honest.

Sure, no problem. Thank you for being open. Since you started this thread I get you talking, but you shouldn't disclose more than you are comfortable with. We know Zandibot but did he really tell you your portfolio could be worth 6 figures if the stars align right ?
Anyway, March is coming up very soon. Plan B ready ?

Zandibot hasn't messaged me back yet. I don't expect anyone to tell me that I can sell my domains for 6 figures but I can still learn by talking to everyone. I am probably one of the most bullish people on Name Pros when it comes to .XYZ so it makes sense that I would price my domains a lot higher. But Zandibot did mention that his 8888.xyz purchase might be one of the 'best ones he acquired'. I am not sure if he meant his best .xyz, best domain of the year or best domain name in general, I have to ask. It was written in one of his blog posts.

MARCH:

Plan A:
- .COM gets banned, Alphabet adopts .xyz for all of their subsidies, additional brands follow and I start selling my domain names

Plan B:
- .Com doesn't get banned so I focus on developing my favorite .XYZ domain names and renew most of them during the next cycle to wait for Alphabet to further endorse .xyz

Plan C:
- Something disastrous or unforeseeable happens such as Alphabet changing their name again and dropping the abc.xyz domain name. This is when I would still develop the ones I love but possibly drop some of them so I can save money.

Plan D:
- Something really crazy happens like a natural disaster at the XYZ headquarters or a bankruptcy filed by their company. In this case I would be out a couple hundred bucks and still have some of my non-XYZ domain names that I am already developing.

@ cverzonilla I agree with what you are warning about China. I think it's very possible that China could lock their internet up only to extensions with physical databases inside of China. This would mean them banning .Com, as you've said. Again, I see this a very real possibility.

I don't think china banning .com is a reason for your xyz hype. I see no connection or reason why China banning .com a would enhance xyz, do you? Besides that xyz isn't on the approved list either! I don't think it will be unless it is owned and operated in China, do you?

You are only hurting your cause by suggesting it will be approved, because if and when it's not, this will all be all be viewed as negative news for .xyz. IF it is approved, it might help a little, but not what you think. .CN is their go-to extension and I cannot see a reason why that would change. xyz is just a goofy extension, I think. It can work in some ways, heck, google might make it work great for them. Despite any successes it may have, I think the majority of people will see that it doesn't suit their needs.

You haven't read any of the sources I included in this thread. XYZ and CLUB are set to be two of the first foreign owned TLDs to get approved in China with a ICP license (check the old articles on Allegravita for one) I believe that .COM will get banned but there is a higher chance of it getting approved than .XYZ failing to gain approval. It's already public information that XYZ is close to approval and from various sources (not only from the lips of Daniel Negari)

I also explained why I believe .XYZ is a great alternative to .COM and I stated a lot of reasons, there are a lot. The most obvious signal is that Google bought abc.xyz with the knowledge that .COM would get banned in China (it was already public information in the first half of 2015)

I provided a lot of information to back up my claims. Keep in mind that .com is valuable because it is used for almost everything, but it was originally intended for commercial purposes (notice the 'com' in commercial), not everything. I can go on about why XYZ can be a true EVERYTHING TLD once .com gets banned, and why .COM will once again be positioned as a niche extension but that might bore you and I already posted about it in this thread.

Okay well if you explained why xyz will be approved I missed it. I only read 1/2 the thread. I agree with almost everything you say. I see what you're saying about .com being looked at as a commercial enterprise domain. I view it the same as you, the extensions will be looked and and used more closely to their true meaning.
I also agree that xyz can mean everything, like everything.xyz would be a nice xyz domain. I don't know what your xyz domains are, but I think unless you have very best words in xyz, that it's a mistake, and that goes for all new gtlds! That said, I don't see xyz being so special among many others, especially cc, considering cc end user popularity. I am just debating the whole picture with you. If we really are domainers we are looking for the biggest gains. I don't think .xyz offers that considering alternatives.

Whatโ€™s new about this, in my view the most important thing, is that it includes provisions on the fact that publications that are going to be offered for sale on the Chinese Internet will have to be stored on Chinese servers,โ€ said Rogier Creemers, a lecturer of politics and history of China at Oxford University. @Kate @lb lions

Sorry about the large post. It didn't copy correctly. Please click on the link, it is a great read. Sorry naysayers, it looks like I was right all along.

I *believe* .top is also approved. I may be wrong about that. Therefore, .xyz, .club, & .top would be the best suited until .com gets its act together. My guess is that they are trying to get their business license by now. I don't see any of these 3 becoming THE domain in China, but there are still potential (good) profits to be made.

.Top is already approved... .Club and .Xyz not yet but soon (in the next few months).

Many of the back & forth arguments here are a waste of space, IMO.

you mentioned .club in the same boat as xyz. I look at it like this, .club is the obvious winner as there are millions of words that fit .club, book.club, karate.club, etc...all can be seen as great domains even by a novice. You have to draw the line somewhere! Is pencil.club a good domain (pun intened)? No, I don't think so. There are limits to club, just like xyz. Xyz's line in the sand is a lot closer than .club, imo.

I guess you are not familiar with the term 'XYZ'. It is actually a three letter word meaning 'something, anything' or something along those lines. Type in XYZ into Google News and see how it is used. It was used on Fortune.com and Forbes.com earlier this week in that way @JayT
