At Respond, I had to deal with much larger distractions (like the former COO of Flycast who was our CEO at the time) causing drama and I took care of it in the end and got the job done.

Distractions may delay us, they will not deter us.

I clearly missed something. What could have possibly happened on NPs that would call into question whether ChannelLocal would move forward?

George, When you say you took care of your former CEO, do you mean you took care of it?... (picture me with an L shaped finger pointing at my temple.....)

Back in 1999, all the large internet companies would do these "lazy susan" deals. So a company like AOL would give a startup $8 million dollars with the requirement that the startup give $6 million back in return for ad placements.

It was a great deal for these large companies because they got stock in the startups and they got to recognize $6 million in revenue. Hence the late 90s internet bubble. The ad placement deals were worthless since the startup was so buried they got zero traffic.

Well less than 12 months after the bubble burst and this practice stopped, our CEO got it into her head that AOL would pay US $250,000 to integrate Respond throughout AOL properties. Three years earlier Respond paid AOL something like $8M for the same placement, I didn't see how AOL was going to do that deal.

This plan to generate revenue was NEVER going to work and I fought it tooth and nail. Luckily, my team in Virgina, followed the wise path and we focused on real revenue generation building a model that is the foundation for today's Respond.

Respond was on every major site, other than Yahoo and Google, the rest of useless (IWon, Lycos, Excite, and many more)
