I'm thinking of auctioning off two of my domains here on NP that I have registered with UnitedDomains. When I searched google, it brought me to a PDF form that I had to fill out in order to change domain name ownership. Is that the only way that I can change DN ownership? Or is there a simpler way? Please let me know thanks

IF, you manage to sell them, then the buyer would submit a transfer request from "their" registrar for the domain.

YOU would supply the BUYER the "authorization code" to transfer the domain to their registrar of choice.

there should be some option for you to click in your "domain control panel" for those names, to request that code, which will either be shown to you in that control panel or sent to the email address of the domain owner.

so make sure that the email address and all who is information you have associated with those domains is accurate.

imo...

ok thank you very much. So "if" I sold a domain on here, I would just need to send the buyer the domain's authorization code?

yes, and you would have to "unlock" the domain at your registrar, prior to them submitting that transfer request.

if the domain is not unlocked, then the transfer will fail.

Since my domains are registered with UnitedDomains, I only have the option to request auth codes from them. Not sure how to "unlock" the domains. Kind of confused on what to do if I auctioned a domain here and tried to push it through UnitedDomains :(.

biggie,

It looks to me like the OP was inquiring about how to do a change of ownership and not a registrar transfer. If the buyer doesn't mind keeping the same registrar, then yes, you should be able to simply do a change of ownership. The process however entirely depends on UnitedDomain's system. Most registrars give you the capability and are advanced enough in technology to perform these actions yourself rather quickly and online. But if UnitedDomains operates in an old fashion method, it could be possible that you would have to fill out manual paper forms and fax them back, etc. The best thing to do is to contact UnitedDomains themselves for the exact details and procedures. They will know best on how to answer your question. I would suggest checking out their FAQ page first located at http://www.uniteddomains.com/faq/ and if that doesn't answer your questions, try giving them a call or sending them an email. Their contact information is located at http://www.uniteddomains.com/index/contact/ .

I think you should read the FAQ on Uniteddomains for transfer process. Usually the buyers want the domain to be transferred to his/her own registrar. Just make sure you send them auth code and unlock the domain. If the Uniteddomains offers registrant email online change, you can also update the registrant email to his/hers.

@ Biggie - just for my education purposes - in a case as you describe above, where the new owner is using a different registrar ... what's the longest reasonable amount of time the buyer should be willing to wait, until the name is in his account? Thanks!

Transferring a domain from 1 registrar to another can take up to 1 week to complete. If you contact the losing registrar or have access to do it yourself, you can sometimes expedite the transfer. Pushing a domain from one account to another within the same registrar is usually more of an instantaneous process.
