A domain thief has stolen more than 15 domains from their rightful owner, by hijacking the holding account. He's offering them for sale on DNF and I thought I'd issue a warning here.

More info about the method and the domains.

Correct, they are from Algeria although that might be a proxy/compromised account. Some info links them to France.

Update: 23 of 25 stolen domains were returned to their owner. The ones remaining are 2-p.com and gmix.com. Not sure why GoDaddy is dragging their feet. The thief was banned at DNF and he's still trying to sell the domains at TDNAM.

The Domain 2-p.com is now been offered at ebay by someone, if this helps.
The auction ends in 6 days, so if anything should be done, it should be done fast.
I don't know who this seller is but he is offering the domain 2-p.com.
I also don't know what happened meanwhile and if the original owner got the names back and sold them, etc.
So this is just in case the domains are still stolen and if the owner is searching for them.

ebay link temporally removed until clarification with my lawyer

Could also be that this guy bought the names from the Thief without knowing that the names were stolen (one possibility).

We represent a large investment firm, we buy and sell domains from our portfolio collection. I contacted our firm's legal department and sent them all the information collected. Our legal department had a phone call with GoDaddy (Ticket number #19191496), this 2 domain 2-p.com and Saxg.com was bought as expired godaddy domain auctions . There were many bidders on these expired auctions and as you all should be aware these expired domains no longer belong to anyone it goes back to the registrar. So in this case Godaddy was the owner of this 2 domains and legally this domains were auctioned and sold . We paid godaddy and godaddy transferred the domains to us. All buyers of the godaddy auctions are protected by Godaddy Auctions legal agreement (http://www.godaddy.com/agreements/sh..._Bid_Offer_Buy) . There is no fraud or misrepresentation done here. We have requested godaddy for a refund of our money back. So we are not going to give this domain for anyone without doing the rightful legal thing, since we also have our money invested . So we do not want anyone to use our names or anything which will damage our reputation, the plaintiff (us) will take legal action and the defendant has to bear any damages to our reputation. In this time if anyone have any questions including the owner we ask them directly to contact us and also anyone to contact Godaddy (Legal Customer support line (480) 505-8877 with Ticket number #19191496).

Trendydomains - take a look at the date of this thread: 8/15/2012

So all the information is time-stamped, proving that these domains have been documented as stolen. I'm sure whoever is giving you legal advice would have to review all that as well.

Anyone can buy stolen property without doing any research of past ownership. So far, it appears that you have been a victim.

Now, you can deny all you want that those are stolen domains, but the fact remains that their legitimate owner had them stolen from him.

Yes seams like you were a victim yourself if you bought the names at godaddy auction, but the names must be returned to the original owner one way or another. Could be that godaddy will have to pay back your money and transfer the domain back to the original owner. But its a fact that these names were stolen last year by someone else (not you) and then changed hands and finally ended up at godaddy auctions.

Also the original owner (the norwegian domainer) should contact godaddy as soon as possible.

Oh geez. I also saw these domains at GD auctions. Good thing I never placed a bid. :D

I don't want to tell the seller what he should do, its his money and his reputation and i really don't care but it seams like he doesn't make any research before he buys domains from auctions, other people, etc.

As an example: you are offering twutter . com at ebay right now
now check out this article

http://fusible.com/2011/11/twitter-wins-dispute-over-highly-trafficked-typo-domain-twiter-com/

and specially this sentence

Now with the twiter.com win under its belt, it wouldnโ€™t be surprising to see the company file disputes against other typo domains such as twutter.com, which uses the same type of redirect to a scam survey site as twiter.com has used.

the domain you bought was
1) used as a scam survey site in the past
2) is a typo of twitter, a clear case of bad faith using typo traffic

My advice for you (and your lawyer): educate yourself a bit more before "investing" in domains.
You may end up losing a lot of money, WIPOs, and your reputation.
And i can tell you and your lawyer that your ebay disclaimers won't help against twitter or any other company!

Just a well meant hint.
Use Archive.org, google, Whois records, past news, etc. BEFORE you buy a domain.

We represent a large investment firm

i may be wrong but i seriously doubt that.. looking at the domains you are selling and your sale venues

So, instead of thanking me for useful info and possibly saving him (and/or an ebay buyer who would have bought the domain from him) from serious problems with Twitter (he now took down twutter from ebay after my last post and info), he is now threatening me via pm with a 3 days deadline to remove those other ebay links, etc. (the ebay links are DEAD links anyway, since he removed them) otherwise he will "take action" he says. Also he says "we know you also sell domains at ebay", so it seams like he suspects i am his "competitor" or something like that. Listen: if i was interested in your "ebay business" and wanted to try to shutt off your business and/or cause serious damage to you, i would have quitely contacted twitter directly and sent them a link to your ebay listing and other info (you even mentioned the word "TYPO" in the Title of your ebay listing!) and following sentence (amoung others) in your listing:

Best of all It gets lots and lots of traffic daily by typo's from twitter..Twutter.com is the perfect typo domain.

Instead i posted it here, without mentioning the link to your ebay listing of twutter and without mentioning your ebayname and even put spaces between the domain and extension.

NOW READ AND GIVE IT TO YOUR LAWYER:
Cybersquatting (also known as domain squatting), according to the United States federal law known as the Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act, is registering, trafficking in, or using a domain name with bad faith intent to profit from the goodwill of a trademark belonging to someone else. Under the ACPA (Anticybersquatting Consumer Protection Act) a cybersquatter can be held liable for actual damages or statutory damages in the amount of a maximum of $100,000 for each name found to be in violation. Cybersquatters sometimes register variants of popular trademarked names, a practice known as typosquatting.

and: http://thomas.loc.gov/cgi-bin/query/z?c106:S.1255.IS:=

So since i don't like to be baselessly threatened, and specially by someone who has clearly no idea what he is doing and his lawyer who seams to have no idea about these laws (otherwise he would have told him NOT to do that), i am forced to consult my lawyer because of this "deadline" and threat and invest my time and money for this nonsence, lesson learned: never try to help typosquatters...i have now also saved the twutter listing, made screenshots and gathered some additional infos, just in case

Publicizing the threats is the best defense - then the threats are nullified.
