Can GoDaddy fine me for not removing a Tdnam listing?

Hi,

I sold a domain a few months ago through Namepros and forgot that it was listed for sale at Godaddy auctions.
Recently I got an email informing me that the name has sold, I replied that I no longer own the name and forgot to remove the listing.
Godaddy blocked my auctions account until I pay $10 "administrative fee", can they do that?

That's the first time I've ever heard of something like that... with an admin fee to boot! If anything, I would have thought they would simply have blocked that particular domain from your TDNAM sales portfolio. But to charge you to have it removed?

Did you write to them to clarify what the fee is all about??

Not sure they would do that. I know that TDNAM does check to make sure domain registrar info (address, etc.) matches that of the TDNAM account holder... We had a couple of domains registered to a 3rd party (client) which TDNAM didn't want to keep in our sales listings account because of the mismatch.

I often think of GoDaddy akin to a no-frills airline that charges for every little thing that most others don't.

That's in large part why GoDaddy can register / renewal domains at or even below cost; aggressive upsells, customer "lock-in" (ie. their 60 day no transfer rule, which they'll waive for those who complain; most don't know that rule isn't enforceable), and of course their infamous "adminstrative" fees, which are often around $30 (ie. handling an DMCA / UDRP complaint), but can be far more.

With all that said, in my view, in regards to the TDNAM listing, GoDaddy has a legit point in charging the $10 fee, since processing of the sale cost them time and money, especially if they'd already accepted payment for it and then had to refund it; dealing with the presumably upset customer, processing costs (in particular if the payment was with credit card; not all processing costs are refunded unlike PayPal), etc.

That is always what has happened to me when I have sold a domain that is also listed with TDNAM.

I think a $10 Admin Fee is rather too cheap for this situation. The seller should have a better handle on his sales threads, imho. "I forgot" doesn't cut it.

I don't think it would be difficult for Godaddy to install an automated system which tracks domains that change accounts...

I've sold a domain outside godaddy auctions and they removed it from being sold automaticaly. hmm strange
