Each Registrar has their own timetable before 45 days after expiry. So each Registrar has defined their own Grace Period. At GoDaddy it's whenever it is taken from your account, which I believe is still 18 days. Grace Period is a flexible term when applied to the Registrar Grace Period, but after 45 days, when domain is returned to the Registry, there is a fixed 30 day Registry Redemption Period, when the domain can still be renewed by paying the Redemption Fee. What gets confusing, is Registrars start charging this Redemption Fee before the 45 day period is up. GoDaddy is one of these companies. Charging the Redemption Fee after the domain is taken out of your account (18 days). But GoDaddy is one of the more generous registrars when allowing domains to be transferred away for only paying the regular transfer fee to a new registrar. They allow this right up to day 42 after expiry.
