question Can Contact Details of Expired Domain be updated on GoDaddy?

Hey guys,

I have a .org domain at GoDaddy that expired 14 days ago but it still shows up on my list of GoDaddy domains.

I need to transfer it out, but the Administrative E-mail where the Auth Code and Transfer Confirmation are sent are @ the domain itself which is inaccessible due to its expired status.

I called GoDaddy and they told me that they cannot change the Contacts of an Expired domain and that I would have to renew it first before doing so. They blamed the Registry and said it was a limitation on the Registry's end, not GoDaddy's.

Is this true? I don't want to have to pay to renew this domain only to have to pay again to have it transferred out. I was able to unlock this expired domain without any problems, so some settings clearly can be edited while it's expired.

Can someone please confirm if the Contact Details of an Expired Domain can be updated on GoDaddy? And if it cannot, whether this is a Godaddy or Registry policy?

if you don't renew it soon (now), it will go into redemption, and cost a lot more to recover.

Yes, I'm aware of that, but can you please confirm if the Contact Details of an Expired Domain can be updated on GoDaddy? And if it cannot, whether this is a Godaddy or Registry policy?

You cannot update the contact details of expired domains. You have to renew them first. I think it works like that at every registrar. But cannot confirm if it is a Registry policy. But it's likely.
