For those of you who don't know - here is part of an email I received from eNom:

**************
This is a formal notice to owners of domains which have been registered through eNom via its reseller, RegisterFly.com.

YOU MUST TAKE ACTION NOW TO RETAIN FULL MANAGEMENT RIGHTS TO YOUR DOMAIN NAME.

Although you purchased your name at RegisterFly, eNom is the actual registrar of record for your domains. As we are severing our relationship with RegisterFly, we are aware that this may have an impact on you as the domain owner.

Poorly handled thus far, on enom's part, as my first reaction was "scam!" as well.

While the sentiment they are trying to convey rings true, the choice of language in the email rings hollow, and also opens themselves up in ways that I think that they might not have wanted to...

The break from Enom was started early last year... well publicized and no secret to anyone with domains thru RegFly....
RegFly even used it as an excuse on several occasions, and when they were fixing their DB it was all because they were getting ICANN'd and were leaving that dirty enom that was the source of ALL their problems.

Do Your Due Diligence Now!

Yes, it is a fact.

I received my ENOM notice.

Now is the time to protect your domain investment potfolio.

"This is a formal notice to owners of domains which have been registered through eNom via its reseller, RegisterFly.com.

Therefore we would like to offer this opportunity to assist you in securing control of your domain name directly with eNom.

Over the last year, eNom has become aware of an increasing number of complaints from dissatisfied RegisterFly customers.

As an eNom reseller, RegisterFly is contractually bound to adhere to certain standards of customer service in a speedy and diligent manner. Therefore, effective immediately, we have terminated RegisterFly as a reseller of domain names through eNom.

Our records indicate that you are the registrant contact for 2 domains.

HOW TO SECURE CONTROL OF YOUR DOMAIN NAMES

Create a free account at eNom using the link below. Your domain names will automatically be moved to the eNom control panel where you will immediately have the ability to manage your domain(s).
In addition, these domains will receive a discounted renewal rate."

I am glad I heeded the admonishment to leave.

wendy

EDIT*** Just saw the above post - and it answers my

Question for dangerous dan:

Hi-

If I have not received an e-mail from enom, but I have domains that show enom as registrar, if I create an account at enom, will they automatically transfer- or do I have to wait for an email to initiate this?

Thanks,

vw

VW, the automated migration process is only via the custom email link. Note that those with 20 or more domains did not receive an email ... they will be contacted personally by an eNom rep on the procedure to migrate those domains.

Nothing will transfer or migrate "automatically" ... if you have less than 20 domains at RegisterFly, do not have the FlyProtect service, have a valid email in your whois information, and your domain is under the eNom cred, you should have received the migration email. (Check your bulk folder too!)

eNom email states push should happen within 24 hours

Thanks for your prompt response, Dangerous Dan :)

I do in fact have more than 20 domains at registerfly, but less than 20 show "enom" in who-is.

I guess I'll wait for my e-mail...

By the way, Welcome to Namepros, Dangerous Dan! :tu:

So is it a scam? I tried to do this but found no domain in the account.

I think that it was the domain that I transferred out of RegisterFly last year. They have been trying to charge me renewal fees despite the fact that it is with GoDaddy ever since. Finally it is out of my RegFly account records.

I'm guessing it is only domains that are over 1 year old so newer registrations are still with RegFly. I just checked my account, all the newer registrations are still there.

Just for clarification - I didn't mean the split or their relationship, I was referring to the specific email and promotion (Let's not kid ourselves ;) ) that's being used here. The split is a good thing (Let's both parties be responsible for keeping their own noses clean.), but sending the "we're leaving registerfly for good" announcement via an email that sounds more juvenile than legitimate, only leads to more issues and confusion.

I'm smelling a potential lawsuit over this one. Just curious what RF is saying about this.

Allan, with all due respect, how would you have done things differently? There was certain "legalese" that needed to be included in the email message, as well as an immediate call to action. I know we're all hyper-sensitive about phishing and scams regarding domain names but the emails came directly from the eNom.com domain along with a link on our site which explained everything in detail. Our customer service folks have been answering RegisterFly customers' concerns as quickly as possible ... as well as the normal number of reseller and retail calls we get daily. (We've hired additional CS staff too!)

I think anyone who thoroughly reads through the letter and FAQ has most every question addressed. We spent dozens of hours working out exactly how our letter and FAQ should be worded so that most every question and concern would be answered - as well as how all the necessary legalities be addressed. For the vast majority of RegisterFly customers, the process is completely automated. They click the link in the letter, open their eNom account and within a day or so their domains are migrated. No fuss, no muss.

Keep in mind that RegisterFly customers with domains under the eNom cred have a full 30 days to open an eNom account and migrate their domain names. Until then they are safe and sound. If there are extenuating circumstances that preclude the automated migration of their domains (or if they have more than 20 and are awaiting a personal call from our support staff) I'm sure once the initial flurry of calls and support cases are caught up, people will be able to get right through to get help and answers to any special issues.

We appreciate everyone's patience and assure all RegisterFly customers who wish to migrate to eNom that they'll be in good hands :)

If you've read any of the posts, Registerfly quit saying anything after Mark Klein announced his new job in here. Paul V. hasn't said a word and I've given them ample opportunity to speak at Registerflies.com and they did not accept my invite.

Registerfly is the one that needs to be worried about the Lawsuit and ICANN can hold their hand while they "Unjust Enrichment" with the ICANN logo. Unbelievable that a Registrar is willing to take action before the Accrediting source (ICANN).

Either way, this is great news to the domain industry and marks a huge victory for Registerfly customers around the world.

Believe me, I understand the issues people have had with RF. The reason I bring up a lawsuit is over how Enom announced the split and how the split occurred. There are complex contract issues at stake here (more than just domainer's complaints about RF's service).

After reading Enom's email, I have some questions I'd like to ask Enom's attorney (assuming Enom had an attorney revise the email before it was sent out).

Go to the Registerflies site for the actual news. It's being updated right now.

Enom had every right to terminate based on the conduct of Registerfly. Frankly, I don't care about the legal mumbo jumbo because I don't understand it all. What I do understand is what's written in black and white.

Oh, and allow me to repeat myself...

Registerfly... Your Customers have been talking but you haven't been listening....

Maybe you can HEAR US NOW!

What worries me is the next week. I have LOTS of names at RF and imho...this is it for them. For all we know Enom has insider information that ICANN is about to pull the plug finally and working fast to save the enom customers that used RF as a reseller. I was just trying to get all my auth codes on the RF site and it died. Hopefully I can get back in later to contine this. I saved a LOT of money with RF but after factoring in the time I spend dealing with their terrible system and service I am probably losing money. I know I will be putting at least 20 hours this week alone into this issue. I will also have to transfer/renew about 150+ domains asap. I just spent $500 last week on renewals at Moniker so this is adding up for me. With RF I have to check each and every domain at their site and whois to make sure info is correct. I found a decent tool.

http://www.domainpunch.com/products/wmdpro/

It's free for 30 days so it's helped me double check the RF list to what is actually there. Out of 218 names there are really only about 150 there. Some are now at Moniker and some are Enom.

This whole process is time consuming, annouying, and somewhat scary.

I can't wait to get them all out. Then you will really see me open up on RF.
