Do you ever feel like a sucker when you register domains that you would see as junk just a few months ago. Names only registered because of the Buyout™

The 88775511.coms and JQ38.coms, and even QQTZZ.coms :xf.eek:

So much $ spent on pure crap (let's be honest - it is crap) since some ChineseInvestor™ decided it's worth something.

It would be as if tomorrow someone told us that limited edition of pet rocks with number 8 on them (production cost ~$0.0000000001) are worth $1000 a piece.
And after that is will be limited edition of pencils and green postit notes, and...

Guys at Verisign must be rolling on the floor (in all this cash) laughing at us. Also people at Godaddy (expired auctions), DropCatch, Snapnames etc

Don't get me wrong - people will (probably) sell some for good profit - but if you take a step back you must admit the current situation is quite absurd.

Are you ever afraid that the bubble will pop eventually and you are left with a box of rocks that you spent $xxxxx on?

Hey there bluebox,

It does seem a bit absurd. Many 8N, 9N and 10N are gone.

I recently registered three 8Ns. I would have chosen 'Potato Sucker' if it was an option in your poll.
(I do think I will be able to flip my wonderful 8ens™ though)

Apparently you need to 'hire a broker' if you want to buy 88775511 .com

Do you own it?

Note: 6ens.com (not ™) and 9ens.com (not ™) are available for registration. '6' and '9' are premium Chinese numbers!!!

I got sucked into registering a few (well, ok, more like 20+) LLLL.nets and some LLL.co but only if I saw an end user potential.

Just looking at Namebio (http://namebio.com/?s=ANzgDO2AjM or http://namebio.com/?s=gM0gDO2AjM for example) - almost all long numerics and other random names are grabbed during the drop (Godaddy = most likely expiring auctions).

Do I really want to register hundreds on 6N/7N/8N+, 5L+, LLNN, NNLL etc. etc. and then hope and wait, and eventually offload them in bulk at namepros (below reg fee since I'm competing with hundreds of thousands of other domains that are being sold before expiration)?

it's definitely becoming a sucker frenzy

folks buying five and six mixed charter combo's, even speculating down the tld ladder

all in hopes of selling to some mystical Chinese buyer

historical sites contain a lot of data, but if you misread it or don't appreciate the time in which the sale was made.....you may be buying a pet rock.

imo...

I think you'll be fine with the LLLL.nets and LLL.cos bluerock. I was wading through deleted LLLL.nets and found two that I would buy if I had the funds.

Being new to domaining there is little chance I am reading any related data correctly Biggie.
I do aim to improve my rock collection however.

I've said so many times, domaining is too often fueled by the greater fool theory :)
If you wanna play the game, you can never be sure you are not the last in line.
It is funny how the perception of things is changing so fast. Yesterday's crap has become (Chinese) premium etc.

If you've missed the 'boat' (or Titanic...), don't run after it but get ready for the next one. But don't be a follower... :)

if you missed this boat its ok theres another boat and if you miss that boat there will be another boat

i see nothing wrong with traveling on these boats for a while as long as you get off at the right time

Domaining is equivalent to a lottery.

Lottery tickets are not good for a full year ;) But all kidding aside, It all depends on how you invest. If you invested in LL, LLL, LLLL, NNN, NNNN, NNNNN then its not a lottery, its a educated calculation. But LLLLL+ and NNNNNN+ are similar to a lottery. IMO

Never. At any point i am confident I could liquidate my portfolio and generate my investment, at a minimum.

Here is the flipside and I am not in anyway saying that people should jump into any niche or trend, but a lot of people years ago called the first people who moved into 5N.com because they could not afford 4N.com suckers and those people made a lot of money.

Recently if you had the chance to hand reg or pick up 4L.net for $5 closeouts, then you missed out on making some money, 300 to 600 % in a very short period of time.

The key is to be early and get the good stuff, so when the also rans are up triple the good stuff will be up 8 to 10 fold.
