Is online slots really worth that much? I mean, if we were talking poker.com or holdem.com, I could see that price.

Playing slots in a casino is dreadful enough. I couldn't imagine wanting to play slots online. Not mention, can you even picture the risk of the house rigging the game? Huge trust issues.

Online slots is a huge thing, really. I think a realistic price for slots.com would have been around $3-4mil but this will be an interesting auction to watch.

It is only Alexa ranked 286K. Shows 15K uniques on Compete.
Until 12/2009 the uniques were 5K or under on average then they shot up in the last three months.

I have a hard time seeing any justification for paying $5M+ for that.

In this case, I think, traffic is irrelevant. What the buyer is thinking is how much additional marketing dollars would it cost to brand a so-so domain name vs. Slots.com. If it would cost, in their opinion, more than $5M to brand an also-ran name vs. Slots.com then Slots.com is a better business decision. Microsoft, for example, had a $100M budget to brand Bing.

There is no TM issues, just about every popular english word will be trademarked in some category or other.

I doubt compete is accurate and with no analysis about the value of the traffic it is not possible to say the name can't be justified at $5million. The bidding around $5million doesn't surprise me much personally.

It has been confirmed from two authoritative sources that Moniker sold Slots.com for $5.5 million. If this does pan out, it will set up a big week for Moniker auctions. Epik also has WiFi.com, Karate.com, HardDrives.com and Hobbies.com as premium “domains with assets” in this auction. Congratulations to Buyer, Seller and Broker.

If you think of slots like 777 then you're too old school. Slots machines today are more like video games with flashy bonus rounds.

Great sale.

Love to see the Slots.xx sales threads popping up [including my own for slots.ag :p ]

Casino / Gambling / Poker names are back in fashion?
