The listing fee doesn't pay the logo designer. The listing fee is for them publish your name on their website.

Listing fees are used to cover costs including logos and descriptions.

So you think BB makes a profit from our listing fee?

So how do they pay for staff who do reviews, copyright, approvals, proofread, sales etc. What about overheads??

Yes listing fees are part of the revenue they collect to pay for the expenses you just mentioned.

You said BB never loses because they charge us $10. If they just relied on the $10 charge they would be out of business.

Where does it say that?

It's very clear on their website...

Listing fee
The listing fee for each name is $10. This is a one time fee paid only if your name is approved and you wish to proceed with listing it.

So listing fees are used to cover costs involved with listing and logo fees are used to cover costs involved with logos.

@Justin Matmor @JimJammy

Bottom line is this... I don't care if you're going to charge me $100 extra on top of the 30% you're already collecting to sell my domain. Especially if its a name that only cost me $50 and you it sold for $2500. Just be transparent and say you're pocketing it instead of calling it an "award fee".

I don't really understand what you are talking about.

It's completely transparent.

Listing fees cover the costs of listing your domain on their website, logo fees cover the costs of the logo designers.

I was a BB seller and designer.

There are two options,

1. The designer will get paid immediately $5 once the logo approved. (There will be no $100 to $500 logo award if the domain sells)

or

2.The designer will get $100-$500 logo award if the domain sells.

Designers need to submit original source .ai (Illustartor) file along with 360X200 & 640X640 transparent PNG files.

All BB sales includes Domain + Logo source, If the buyer wants to use the logo he can use it.

@JimJammy

Above is a comment left by user @DKN

As you an see the designer has the option of accepting $5 upfront and NOT collecting the logo award. Assuming most designers know that only 2 to 3% of BB names sell, they will most likely take the $5 upfront which will be covered by our $10 listing fee.

However, sellers get charged $100 to $500 logo award fee no matter what the designer decides. So if the designer took the $5 and the name sold - BB gets to pocket the logo fee.

I still don't understand how you get that is covered by the listing fee? Logo fees have nothing to do with listing fees.

If BB pays a designer $500 to design 100 logos (the designer has opted for the $5 option) and five of those names sell, BB recoups their $500 they paid out upfront (assuming the logo fee was $100). If more than 5 of those 100 sell, BB makes a profit, if less than those 100 sell BB makes a loss.

@DKN I would really appreciate your input: Do you know how are the design jobs distributed? Who gets to design the USD 200-500 logos, and who gets the USD 100 logos? Did you have a joice? Were you able to opt to design higher award logos? Did you put more effort in higher pay-off designs?

More importantly, does anyone request a $500 logo?

In my experience, I have seen many names with only $100 logo award (around 90%), often some more $200 logo award names.

But no matter it is $100 award or $500 award, all domains will be picked by designers within a hour most of the time.

Do you know how are the design jobs distributed?

This is my observation as a designer and seller.

BrandBucket process from submission to publish:

1.Submission for BB review

1.a. Seller submits their domains to BB for review.

1.b. BB team will review the seller's submission.

Duration : Minimum of 1day to 20 days. (BB becomes very fast in review these days)
Nowadays, it will not take more than 14 days.

2. Accepted or approved stage

Once the seller's domain got accepted by BB, the seller needs to do the following steps

2.a. $10 listing fee to be paid by seller.

2.b. The seller needs to redirect the domain to BB sales page / change the name servers.

2.c. Submit for publish

3.Pending BrandBucket Review stage

BB team will write description for your domains. (It will give the logo concept idea for designers)

In your dashboard ( it will shows "pending review" (Pending review for description.)

4. Logo design phase

Then your domain will goes to logo design pool.

Your name will be picked by a logo designer within few hours. (Some times within a hour)

Then Logo designer should upload logo within 48 hours.

Then BB will review the logo uploaded by the designer, (It will take 6 to 48 hours)

If the logo doesn't meet the BB design criteria, it will be rejected and it will be send to design pool again.

If the logo design approved by BB team, domain will come to next step in publishing process.

5."Queued for publishing" Stage

Now the domain will move to queued for publishing stage.

6.Published Stage
Your domain will be live and ready for sale with logo.

Who gets to design the USD 200-500 logos, and who gets the USD 100 logos? Did you have a joice? Were you able to opt to design higher award logos? Did you put more effort in higher pay-off designs?

I can able to pick and design $100 to $300 logos. But i prefer to design for my own domains (I have designed 100+ logos for my own domains)

More importantly, does anyone request a $500 logo?

Yes. I have came across few $500 logo award names.

P.S.
IMO, BB is one of the great market place in the industry who provides professional support for me in all my BrandBucket works.

Hope this helps :)

This time last year they were taking several months. It was beneficial back then to award a higher logo price so the logo designers would grab your domain first.

It's not like that now. It usually takes anything from a few days to a few weeks.

Michael has recently stated that they are at full throttle and the last few weeks has seen an influx (I'm guessing because of various registrars offers recently). He has also mentioned that things should be back to normal within 7 -10 days so I'm sure your domains are nearing the top of the pile now.

Hi
I want to be able to share a list of all my domains listed on brand bucket. I forget the format. Can someone remind me how to create a URL/link for a list of my domains on brandbucket?
Thanks

.. and 98% of names never sell,

1) google is your best friend
2) do due dilligence
3) not sold !== never sells

BrandBucket: $2.4 million in sales in 2015
April 7, 2016 Doron Vermaat Marketplaces

BBLeading brandable domain name marketplace BrandBucket sent me a press release in which they share they have sold $2.4 million in business names in 2015. The last time the marketplace shared any sales data was back in 2013 when the company announced it reached its goal of $1 million in sales for that year. While the company shows growth for the eighth consecutive year since opening its marketplace in 2007, the increase in revenue from an annual $1M to $2.4M over a two year period is not exactly in line with the explosive growth of its inventory which went from just a few thousand domains in 2013 to more than 23,000 listings by the end of 2015.

Early sellers on the platform used to report sell through ratios as high as 50% sometimes while most sellers with large portfolios listed on the marketplace report sell through ratios of around 4% annually these days. If you take an average sales price of $2,400 per domain the annual sell through ratio over 2015 is 4.3%.

----

This means the company probably brought in about $750,000 in revenue last year, assuming all domain sales were for third-party listers.

Brandable domain names can be difficult to sell, but BrandBucket does a good job pulling together quality brandable inventory at fair prices. This, combined with requiring clients forward their domains to landing pages, helped the company turn 5% of its inventory last year.

so I guess its pretty save to say
your claim 98% don't sell is simply FALSE information

true seems to be: about 5% sold in 2015 alone
and a few may sell this year

Maybe I'm mistaken, but I noticed that the rapid expansion of BB's inventory seems to be slowing down. I see 36,XXX names for a long time.

not really, in last 20 days they went from 35100 to 36957, which is 92 names/day. In the preceding 13 months the average was 38 names/day. Last 6 days BB adds 98 names/day.

That means they will double the portfolio in less then a year... If the advertising will not double the sell-through rates will keep falling...
