Where do you see this within your account?

Currently it is only for domain names that use Custom Keywords. Click On Manage Domains, click on a domain name, and then Custom Keywords. You'll see performance data for each keyword.

Rolling over the performance bar will give you a few more things such as Impressions and Revenue.

We have plans to expand this entire performance thing. So if everyone likes what they see so far, I will go ahead and make sure we enhance it down the road.

I have domains which I have had for months with colors, will they eventually all turn gray as you noted? (I think excluding the color for period is great by the way.)

Yes, here is how the new templates look like:

http://bodisparking.com/videogames.com

http://bodisparking.com/eminemtestdomain.com

That is just one of them. There will be a second version which is slimmer. Also, I do have plans to release a similar template that has just links. Although, that can probably take a few weeks.

The pictures in the present templates are 620x240 pixels in size. I notice that in the new templates the size becomes a little smaller to 540x210 px. which is great because it maintains the same proportion.

Looking Goooooood Matt :tu:

upgrades to Bodis

Thanks Matt for really explaining that content concept. It has been paraded all around to all the domainers to build content in parked pages. I never noticed any increased traffic after spending months making content on names Parked at Bodis or other places. I like my parked domains with content in one way though as once the traffic lands on the page I try to guide them with my content to what the domain really sells.

Can it be possible to have say one tenth or less of the page an area that can be content loaded and then the rest of the page be all ppc ads?

Its all about the most profits and you are seeing from inside the machine and you know what is working or not. That being said, I think those new templates are clean with nice sized clickable ads. I can be more than happy with that if you do away with content. But I am a little player here and others who have the bigger payouts may have more to say.

I've already discussed this with other business people involved in this industry over the last few days. And the reason I want to cancel any content is because the PROs for canceling outweigh the CONs.

The PROs for permanently disabling custom content are:

  • We can say that the content on parked domain names does not help at all for SEO purposes, assuming we already have a title and relevant keywords which we do on each landing page.
  • It drops CTR. The more content you add, the lower your revenue will be.
  • It is not our main strategy. I want us to focus on monetizing type-in domain names most effectively, and this distracts us from our goal. We are not in this business for creating sites like WhyPark. At least, not for now.
  • We don't want our clients to spend time writing up custom content, when they can put that time into optimizing their keywords or adding domain names which can help increase revenue.
  • Creating new templates is a drag and takes a long time to make sure that all content and html properties are correctly displayed the way they are styled in the editor. This adds a lot of code, and a lot of testing, and is one of the major things that has been slowing us down when developing our new templates. We rather put that time into developing more higher yielding templates without support for content.
  • Management of each domain name is slower due to the amount of time needed to load the rich-text editor.

The CONs for disabling custom content:
  • Clients are able to increase their revenue by adding in affiliate banners.

I've thought of this for a while, and the overall idea is to completely remove support for custom content for the time being. It will help us focus on the things we need to focus on and will allow us to get newer templates developed in a much quicker time frame.

The clients that like to add in affiliate banners can temporarily decide to either stick with our standard revenue model, or can redirect their domain names the affiliate program instead. In the future, we may fully support CPA, but it will not be any time soon.

I just want to make sure everyone understands. This change will allow us to get things done quicker, help improve overall network revenue, and lower the maintenance involved in handling any problems associated with custom content.

Hey Matt

I tried to contact you through the contact us but a strange error came up so I thought I would come to you here.

I keep trying to upload pictures which does work but when I try to add them and it makes me "crop" the crop feature gets all crazy and shifts to the far left off the page. I can't seem to crop correctly.

Also, what is the size to use for the custom pics? Thanks a bunch. I'm excited at what I could do with Bodis.

Matt, I've noticed a drop in revenue the past few weeks. Has there been any changes to the advertisers?

I'd get rid of the content. I agree it is a waste of time for the most part. Title tags and keywords get the traffic along with the domain name.

PPC is coming back

Right on Matt. The top priority is effectiveness and performance. I am now convinced any content added is diluting the monetization. So getting rid of the content is smart.

It will be super easy to just tweak keywords and titles and not spend time trying to make mini sites for all my domains. What the heck happened that all these parking companies promoted adding content and saying it would draw traffic?. Did the big slap down of domain search by Google lower traffic to content added pages?. Or are profits just lower for all content pages compared to traffic now and before the slapdown?.

Its great to find a parking provider who takes the time to inform in a transparent way, thanks Matt.

The layout and the templates seem very appealing.

I think we kind of set the trend for the content at the very beginning of our release almost 2 years ago. At first, the content was very helpful because Google was indexing us like crazy.

That has stopped after a few short months.

Although, Google and most other search engines do look at a few details when indexing sites such as the server ip address range, WHOIS of the servers, along with the name servers that the domain names are pointing to. This is not a theory, it is something that Matt Cutts, who works on improving the Google search algorithm has spoken about many times in the past. Once too many domain names are pointed to the same servers, they all drop in rankings significantly. They basically get "blacklisted" for the time that they resolve to the parked page. It would be out of our scope to invest into the technology that would help us cloak where the domain names are pointing to. Actually, nearly impossible since everyone uses NS1.BODIS.COM / NS2.BODIS.COM for the name servers. So even if we'd have thousands of different servers across different ranges, it wouldn't help us out much. So no matter how much unique content you add, chances are you will never have a good ranking for your parked domain name with Google.

I do know that Yahoo still indexes your domain names rather well when they are parked. Although, what I've noticed is that our title, description, and keywords get much more weight than the custom content.

If I were to keep custom content, it will just be a lot more work for us. And ofcoarse, we rather spend a month working on new templates that can boost your revenue by a much greater % than worrying about bugs in the custom content that will only waste people's time and will not help you at all.

I've checked our logs in detail. And there are almost no clicks coming in every day from search engines due to the custom content. If any are coming in for any type of content, it is from Yahoo and it is mainly for title/description/possibly a few keyword links.

PS
To the other person, the customer support form fix will be rolled out in a few minutes.

Matt, I've noticed a drop in revenue the past few weeks. Has there been any changes to the advertisers?

Nothing has changed on our end. Please send me your email or details and I will look into your domains to see if I can spot anything.

Custom pic size

The size of the custom pictures does not matter. When using the cropper, we automatically rescale to the size we need on the landing page. The cropper has a fixed width/height ratio. Our current landing page picture size is 620x240. If you crop anything bigger or smaller, it will rescale to that dimension.

The domain name landing pages (at least the newer ones) will be automatically search engine optimized for maximal revenue. There is no need for adding a custom feature that will allow you to add or remove the "noindex" tag.

I think you got a little confused. ;) I didn't say there was going to be a keyword meta tag. What I did say was that Yahoo indexes your domain landing pages based on the keyword links, and adds weight for your domain names based on the links that we display.

The title and description is indeed there as well, even on the current landing pages. I am not speaking about the meta tags. ;) But the meta description might be added to the newer landing pages as well - I will give it a thought.

The nofollow/noarchive is on the main page. The noarchive tells search engines to not create a cache of the pages. For Google for instance, if you were to find your parked page on the search engine, the "Cache" result link would be missing. The nofollow tells search engines not to follow the keyword links on the main page as we do not want them to index anything else other than the main page. It basically means, do not follow any links from the main page to the search page.

The search results page has a noindex tag. That is by design. That tells search engines not to index any search results.

I hope that explains it.

I like that!

I did notice that the title defaults to the domain name, but that it can be changed to whatever you want up to 35 characters, and that it is also the h1 tag, pretty slick.

LOL....I'm surprised L2. You are usually all over these things. :)

I just started doing my in-depth DD here lol. I like what I see. Simple feel to the page, and very few exits. (less exits = higher CTR = more money = happiness).

Couldn't agree more. My earnings are rock solid.

Couldn't ask for more, except that Matt is trying to give us more ( BONUS! )

Keep up the great work Matt. :)

I wish I could claim this. Seriously. How do your top three Bodis domains stack up against prior earnings for those same domains in Bodis a year ago?

My three top Bodis domains in Feb 2008 earned about $160 total for the month and got around 3200 combined visits. Those same three domains thus far in Feb 2009 have earned under $5 and have under 100 total visits. I was hoping they would bounce back with the new feed, but it doesn't seem so....or maybe I'm not on the new feed.

On the other hand, my curent best performng Bodis domain is making about double what it did in February last year even though the visits are less. In Feb 2008, it made $13.19 with 353 visits. So far this Feb it's made $15.43 on 155 visits. At an aaverage of about 80 cents per day, that would put it at almost double for this month. Not as good as my best last year, but not bad, either.

Around October or November of 2008, we made a change to how visitor statistics are calculated. In February 2008, every unique ip address was counted as a visitor, whether this visitor was a robot or not.

But on our network, for every 1 valid visitor, we have about 20 or more invalid visitors that usually use a massive range of different ip addresses. These invalid visitors, are robots that crawl the internet to scrap content, email addresses, send Viagra emails via contact us forms, and things of that nature.

I figured that, how can we possibly show you a correct RPM number if one day you can get hammered by thousands of different robots and your RPM would drop due to your visitor #s sky-rocketing. Correct RPM numbers are needed not only to show you guys, but they are needed for us to know how to optimize your domain names. Therefore, in November of 2008, or around that time, any visitor that had the slightest resemblance to a robot was no longer allowed to be counted as a visitor. Therefore, your visitor numbers may have dropped due to this change.

Your revenue however, shouldn't have made the same drop. It's a good chance that some type of characteristic has changed with your domain name. If you can PM me your domain name, I can take a look back throughout the months and see if I can spot anything.

I thank you for your offer, and I’ll send you some domains, but I must not have been clear in my earlier post: It’s not one domain name, it’s across the board. The example I used with my top three domains of Feb 2008 simply showed how drastic the drop was compared to Feb 2009…and how those three (along with others) no longer earn much.

Here’s a better example: My top 15 Bodis domains for February 2008 made $363.45 out of that month's total of $574.77. Those same 15 domains (still at Bodis) for the first 20 days of February 2009 have only made a total of $4.76. If that drop had been for a single domain, I might agree that “some type of characteristic has changed with your domain name,” but since it was across the board, that tells me the results are more likely to be systemically influenced rather than individually based.

Correct RPM numbers are needed not only to show you guys, but they are needed for us to know how to optimize your domain names.

Speaking only for myself, RPM numbers matter more to you than to me. With the low amounts I am currently making, what good does it do to see a domain with a $170 RPM that’s based on one visit with $0.17 earnings? Besides, if I don't know how your "visitor statistics are calculated," or know what your numbers used in the equation are (CTR, RPC), RPM means nothing to me (especially since I don't have domains getting thousands of visitors per day)? Can you explain how RPM should matter to me? And can you also explain how you determine what 100% payout is? I thought I remembered it was some sort of an average divided out, but after thinking about it, that makes no sense.

Edit: PM'd you the 15 domains.
