Birdwatch.tv on Bido today.

http://www.bido.com/Auction?name=birdwatch.tv

This is a no reserve auction, bidding starts at $1, so join in right now. Auction runs from 1PM till ~2PM EST(barring extensions).

Our special guest today is Makis Mourelatos.

Born in Montreal, Canada, raised in Athens. Makis got familiar with the web when he started developing websites with Joomla for his university just 5-6 years ago, then jumped into webhosting and Joomla minisites developing market, and finally he got into seo techniques for Joomla websites where he's still working up until now. Being in domains for the last 3 1/2 yrs he is mostly trying to make some profit from flipping domains. These last 2 years he has focused mostly on buying .tv domains but also .info and second quality .com's. Makis is always trying to find new ground to work since he believes good .com's need lots of money in order to buy them , kind of money only end users give. He is great supporter for searching on new things in domaining and trying to benefit from them paying $$$ money per domain(mostly expired ones) instead of buying one domain for $$$$$ then waiting for 5-6 yrs until i resell it.

Hope to see you at the auction.

How long does it usually take to get on the auction list after you get a email that says your domain was approved? I filled out the contract and other forms a week or so ago and it said it usually takes between 24-48 hours for contract review and votes.

Thanks

Once you verify your domain ownership the domain goes up for voting for 30 days.
Please visit this link and see if your listing is awaiting any action on your end:
http://www.bido.com/UserDomains
This isn't directed at you specifically etittle54, but generally speaking, please remember that after you submit domains you must verify their ownership before they will go up for voting.
I would also like to stress that we are working on getting a new version up for sellers that will make it much easier to know what to do next to get your domains up for auction. The new version will let you know how many votes your domains are awaiting. The new version will let you fill one contract for all your domains, instead of individual contracts for each. And a few more changes as well. We realize there are a few confusing aspects of the flow there and we're addressing them as fast as we can. In the next few days we will have another version there and really make life easier for sellers and remove any confusion or aggravation about knowing what to do next. This is a work in progress and we appreciate your patience while we push forward with our new version as fast as possible. The new version that is coming soon will be much more of a delight to use. If I may help with anything else, please let me know.

Thank you for the kind words Sundari. Names are selected for auction by the members. Some of the names you see that are up for auction now are legacy names we had in the que from before our change to crowdsourcing votes. Initially, Bido would select what went up for auction, but now we let the members vote on what they want to see go up for No Reserve auction.
The format for Reserve pricing is that sellers may pay to list their Reserve priced domains. The fee is refunded if the reserve is met by the bidders. If the reserve is not met, sellers do not get the fee back. This provides accountability for sellers to price their domains accurately on Bido and makes us a vibrant marketplace with many transactions taking place instead of unrealistic reserves and inventory that will never be sold. Reserve priced domains do not have voting. We have a listing fee for Reserve priced domains and we are making that more of a self-serve process than it currently is within the next few days.
More info about submitting Reserve or No Reserve domains is here:
http://www.bido.com/SubmitDomains
For those types of domains that go up for voting by the members, what we have seen is that the quality of the domains will determine the votes they receive.
And lastly I would like to let you all know that we have changes coming to the voting process to make it easier to see whats been submitted so you can cast your votes in an efficient manner and reduce fatigue when voting.
Regards

Jarred, some people are complaining about having to change the registrant details to verify their name(s). I can see this causing major issues at godaddy at least.

Why not use the admin email on record as a way of authentication? Works for sedo / afternic etc.

Hi Samit, thank you for the feedback. We feel our method is secure, better for the actual owners of the domains, as well as better for the bidders on Bido. One can do a lookup and see that infact the domain is authorized to appear on Bido. As you well know, we have a different approach to operating a vibrant marketplace than those you mention.
Placing a tag in the whois output does not cause major issues. Yes at GoDaddy they wont allow a transfer out for 60 days, but the winner can still obtain their domain via an internal push. That's really not a major issue, is it? For several reasons it's actually better for the seller to do an internal push to the winner rather than unlocking and giving away an EPP code.
When you weigh the differences and compare what we do, I'm confident you'll see the pluses when you see whats different.
And if something can be improved we value your feedback. It's a good topic, happy to discuss further.

Mediahound,

Have you thought about changing how the seller picks the day and time of his or her auction? I found that if you only allow the seller to pick from an "available" date and time rather then all dates and times would help alot. I found I would pick a date and time and find that it was already taken.

Just a thought.

Hi Eric,
You can pick whatever date and time you want, up to a month out and must be at least a week for preview as well. We don't close auctions on the weekends (the tool wont let you) and the tool will also ask that if your exact time conflicts with another auction at the very same time, that you pick a few minutes away in either direction.

Jarred

Thanks, I get it now! Rep'd.

Also, it really does seem slow or I freeze up a lot on the site. Is it me and the many computers that I use or is this a common thing for all users?
