Hi. I am tempted to start using host gator for hosting, but I am not sure. I want to get a good host, and they must have:

- wildcarded dns
- unlimited email addresses and domain names
- unlimited mysql servers
- preferably an option to offer email to my users, although haven't seen that anywhere yet.
- cpanel
- anything else you think may be useful.

Basically has to be better than the "baby" option here http://hostgator.com/shared.shtml, and cost less! lol

Thanks
Tom

whoops... lol - well spotted - I meant unlimited mysql databases... heh

I know it is physically impossible to have unlimited databases, but it would be nice to have no restrictions

Trap 17

Better than most paid hosts, but free in the sense that you don't need to pay money. You just need to be active on the message boards. I'm not sure if they have unlimited mysql databases, think its like 250 or summin like that. I think 5 parked domains and a (large) number of e-mail adresses. You can e-mail your users. Not sure what a wildcard dns is.

EDIT: It does have unlimited MySQL databases and Parked/Addon Domains. It has Perl enabled and unlimited e-mail adresses and unlimited mailing lists/forwarding.

To be honest free hosts are never that good, you should always choose a well known host, i myself have made that mistake and will not again!

Powweb are supposadly very good.

And as for mysql databases, unlimited is really not needed, most decent scripts have a table prefix so you can easily identify what tables are for what.

Trap17 is well-known enough. It has over 10k hosted websites, and those are just the free-forum hosts. Not sure about the free-banner and paid hosting though.

I just have a disliking to free hosters.

Just check 'em out. You will like them, as they are better than most paid hosts I have used.

re:

I personally can add sign up for email for users. If you want to host with me, I can provide the email sign up, 5GB/50GB for $12.99. I would offer a free month to test, but since the account is so big, I cannot afford to. If you host one month, I can provide the 2nd month for free. Server has not been done for 3 straight months. If it goes down in the 1st month, I will give you 50% back. If downtime is over 10 hours, then will give you the month for free.

You can talk to them on the phone or e-mail and get an amazingly fast response.

hmm... thanks for your help. And thanks for the free hosting thing, I will look into it, but wildcarded dns is really a must-have.

Thank you to all you others, I will look into all the hosting companies and will make a decision. Thanks a lot! :)
