Bad way to do business?

I was negotiating with a seller for buying a couple of his domains. Finally he accepted my offer and asked me to go ahead and make the payment. His message was

"Alright deal. Please send payments to [email protected] . Also I need your info to complete the push."

On seeing his PM, i checked the thread, in which he has updated the status as SOLD for one of the domains alone. I got suspicious and asked him to clarify. His reply was

"I sold xxxx earlier. Sorry."

What a bad way to do business? Although the deal was finalized by PM, isnt the Seller bound to it?

It's happened to me once or twice. I figure people make mistakes - especially if they're selling in multiple forums and have a long list of domain names for sale. Since I make mistakes myself, I let it go. If it happened all the time with the same seller, I would just avoid that seller.

I wish it had happened by mistake. But the negotiations were going on for a couple of days, so that excuse would be lame.

I made an offer to an NP member for a domain, and he accepted it. Then he didn't reply to my next PM.

The next day, I saw him advertising the same domain at DNF. When I PM'd him about it there, he said, "I am not using Namepros any more, because i got a Negative Itrader which I didnt deserve at all".

Yeah, I bet he didn't!

rude much? why not just post in the thread instead of sending a PM ?

I have never had problems with this here, but at DNF, I started a thread saying "Looking for XX). I was then sent a PM by a member for a name at a price. I replied saying "Sold" and he then said that he had another higher offer that I had to meet.

First I want to make sure, I am on the right side. Is the seller obliged to honor a deal made by PM?

Thanks for all the comments.

Thanks for all the comments.

It is not a contract as such but I would say that they are, if not legally, through integrity.

the op was buying multiple domains from this person, but the seller had already sold one to somebody else, but didn't inform the op that one of the domains was now off the market. so basically, if the op hadn't checked that thread, he would have ended up paying for a domain that was already sold to somebody else. =/

Ah, I see now. Yes that is a terrible way to do business. I wouldnt have bought anything from that seller.

PM or not, if you had a deal the deal should be honored by both parties.

You are spot on shockie. :tu: Infact I made arrangements for the Payment funds as well. Just before sending the payment, I checked his thread.

Thanks -RJ-. I will seek an explanation from the Seller.

i go for a trader with word of honor
i always make it a point to satisfy the trader's demands even via pm or voice :)
if that's the way he/she does business, sooner or later no one will trust him/her and how news flies easily when you're in the internet.

I had a similar issue lately where I was the seller.

I offered a name at a fixed price and the buyer initially could not meet my asking, so I invited other bidders.

Then I went to bed.

When I came back online , the morning after here in Australia, I had 3 different buyers for that name from 2 different forums.

The first one who later overnight decided to match my asking price and other 2 that offered much more than the first one.

I had not many choice there then to apologies with the first one and sell it to the highest offer.
But since it`s Christmas time , and I felt kind of guilty because I did not handle the situacion too well, I sent to the first buyer $50 as small gift.

I think, I learned something from it and won`t put myself in the same situacion anymore.

Do you think I did a mistake?

Thanks

Guys, this was my sale. It was linked to this thread
Code:
http://www.namepros.com/domains-for-sale-fixed-price/409150-llll-com.html
in which me and the buyer had not finalized the deal when I received the other offer. I would love to go through with the deal but the domain has already been pushed to its new user. Yes I did make a mistake and it was my fault. I hope you can forgive me and leave my feedback alone. Thanks.

Hi Adam, I would respect much more someone able to admit his mistake rather than people avoiding questions or ignoring them.

I think that everyone can make 1 mistake and learn from that one. Different story is doing the same mistake several times :)

Just wondering, what's Namepros' stance on buyers backing out after making an agreement with the seller to buy his names. Does this warrant a negative TR?
