Alright so I want to try and setup this deal. The only catch is that the guy I want to sell this domain to eventually will probably have a bad reaction if he knows i'm the one selling it because he knows me.

His current website is <keyword><keyword>online.com

I want to try to sell him <keyword><keyword>.us which is unregistered.

I know you can anonymously register domains but are there problems with that and would he find my name out during the transfer?

I'm not going to comment on the possible ethical aspects of this but I would guess the user in question has deliberately chosen to stick with .com, even at the cost of a longer domain. I doubt he has any interest in your .us domain.
If you have a legitimate reason for concealing your personal information in whois there are proxy services available, and some registrars will even offer whois privacy for free.

I don't think you can have any privacy on .us names...... registering it via a friend might work, if you have someone in another state you can trust.

I'm kind of thinking what you are thinking. I doubt he would be willing to spend the money on it. However, he is one of a few potential buyers I think that could be lined up so I would not want to turn any potential buyers away. Trust me, I know this guy has $$$ if he is wanting to spend them. I don't even think I would actively try to sell to him but see if he comes to me in the next few years since I would put a sale link on the site.

 analysing the buyers wealth before contacting them. nice strategy dude.

regarding the chances of him coming to you that i doubt that he will ever come. the probability of that is really slim .

You need to think this way: I have xxxxx.com and I found out those people who
have the money but has xxxxx.net for real business, I tried to contact them for sales of .coms.
But still no sale, they are not interested in them.

That's correct, you can't have whois privacy on .us names, it's not allowed

As far as I know Namecheap and DomainSite.com offer whois privacy for .com domains.
They do not offer it for ccTLDs.
But if you are a member of DNOA.org you get free whois privacy.
I am not too sure whether it works for ccTLDs but maybe you can try asking DNOA members.
