Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

My sell-through-rate is currently 3.17% after 4+ years, it doesn't get much better than that.
Yes, it can...

Same for over 500 Premium but Atom does show the regular disclaimer:

Views and Discovery data may not be fully accurate for the next few days as the system adjusts to the new filtering rules.

It has always said that.

Honestly, I am not surprised if this actually occurred. Atom STR is hot garbage.

Yes. I have had 2 standard listing sales this year. Both were .ai names.

Great work on selling the names and the STR. Can I ask what the names were?

Things have changed for the worse on Atom sadly. Can't make a living at 1% STR. I'm just about 2 years into my 3 year test. That last year is going to have to be quite good for the test to win.

I think people started to believe that if Atom accepted their names as premium then they were good names but even their own domain rating system was rating most at 5.5/10 and accepting them as premium. These names have very little chance of ever selling when compared against the thousands of others in the same niche that are of a much higher quality.

I don't think the premium acceptance bench mark is going to change much , it is up to individuals to undertake self assessment as to whether the names they are buying / hand registering are premium / sellable at a STR >1%.

The new export format, as of today, still has no visits field on it. I asked why a while ago, no reply.

The old export file format with visits is gone, and I am likely gone as well. Visits is all I care about. Thats what it comes down to; which domains are getting how many visits.

Visits used to be on the newer format file many months ago but that field quietly got dropped and no replies as to why. I dont know when because, frankly, I never used the new format due to the issues with it on the dashboard.

I will admit, it seems much more stable lately AND I see visits on the new domain listings page but it doesnt export. I am not going to copy/paste and reformat that data every day just to see what my names are pulling in.

I'm unable to go past the second page on my portfolio list. Never loads. Had to switch page count to 500.

None of the search filters seem to work on the portfolio list or dashboard page either.

Can't get rid of the filter lightbox without turning my phone to landscape on mobile. Is any of Atom optimised for mobile?

It might hurt the bottom line a little bit, but if they were to take the 10,000 crappiest domains and refund the $1 for the coin, it could really help clean up the marketplace. And then do that again each year for 2-5 more years. It would outrage a few people who have 5.5/10 domains priced at 200k, but perhaps Atom could spin this as "you have 10 domains with us, that one really sucked and is keeping buyers from buying your 9 better domains. Help us, help you."

Is nameserver verification failing for anyone else? For the last few days I've only been able to verify using a TXT record, which involves changing NS back to the registrar's, adding the TXT record there and then changing NS back to Atom again.

Not that it means a lot to me, but Atom's AI appraisal tool seems to have upped the value of .ai domains recently (2-5x in the case of my portfolio).

Yep, have also experienced the pagination bug in the last few days. It's ridiculous the amount of bugs this new redesign/refactor has introduced. I think I mentioned this as a possibility when Spaceship's payment path previously had a bug in it, but it seems to be confirmed for Atom - a competent engineering team would have regression tests in place before a huge refactor like this to make sure existing functionality doesn't get broken. If these are just the UI/UX bugs showing up, how many hidden bugs have been introduced to their platform that their users can't catch for them? How do we - or they - know their conversion path, backend systems, or remarketing systems are working as they should?

I have similar impression that it doesn't have proper tests and we are acting as testers...

Yep this has been going on for a least a few days now.

It just refreshes the original 25 entries, and doesn't work at any other number selection than 500. I get so tired reporting bugs that I didn't even bother with this one.
