Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Watch
Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

Had I known they would limit off platform marketing to almost zero immediately after listing my .now's as Premium, I wouldn't have listed them.

They should at least ease the process of downgrading to Plus or Standard? Some gesture of goodwill is in order here.

@Atom.com In the new interface, the "Export Domains to Google Sheets" feature is no longer present. There's only a 'sync' function left.
Some context. This is about the dedicated Export functionality for Plus and Premium domains (whole portfolio) with full Descriptions. I'm using this to see where improvements are needed across all my domain descriptions. It's impossible to do this without it, and I don't like to put the 'Google sync' function on (which acts in both directions).

Even better would be a direct CSV download with these Descriptions, so that I don't have to convert it from Google Sheets to my import in LibreOffice Calc.

Thanks.

Following Sedoโ€™s decision to end the partnership, the syndicated listings were deactivated and Atom no longer has any role or influence in how historical listings are handled on their platform. As a result, any questions related to removing or managing listings on Sedo need to be handled directly by Sedo support.
You seem to say you have no control, but even so you must have influence - you can ask Sedo to remove these listings - will you please do that?

Re your claim that removing those listings can only be done by Sedo support, when contacted about that Sedo claim that only Atom can remove them and tell you to go contact Atom.

Are you listening @Atom.com ?

Yes. Atom used its own TXT verification record to automatically syndicate all of our Premium domains to Sedo, so it's Atom who is responsible for correcting this.

Today, Premium listings are allowed to be listed on both Afternic and Spaceship, which together provide access to essentially all registrar paths that drive real end-user demand through the registrar channel. In practice, most individual registrars that support direct marketplace listings are already part of the broader distribution network covered by Afternic.

So, despite your publicly posted policy, we're only allowed to list on Afternic and Spaceship? What about Dynadot or Porkbun? Those are both ICANN registrars with marketplaces. I've listed some Premium domains there, based on that policy. Do I need to remove them?

Is the "Down Payment" option working for anyone? If you have a name on Installments (12 months, for example) then add a Down Payment amount, does it work? Does it show up on the landing page? I can't get it to work for any of my names. In my case it shows the option to Pay in Installments, but the down payment part is nowhere to be found.

I'm experiencing the same issue, on all my landers. I hope it is an issue, minimal lander shouldn't be this minimal.

@Dane / @Jannes Is that with individual per domain LTO downpayment settings? No problem here with the account-wide downpayment settings.

Account-wide (marketplace settings).

I have to ditch down payments for now, because this is a potential deal killer.

Credit where it's due, this is a definite improvement in terms of reducing clutter. It looks like it's been in the making for a while, but I'm choosing to believe I had something to do it. I do wonder how useful/accurate these "underpriced" categories are.

Extremely happy with this. It's even better than in the old interface.

Thanks for the Christmas present @Atom.com! ๐ŸŽ

I just checked and downpayments are also showing for me on the lander. Maybe they're A/B testing some domains with and some without?

@Atom.com There's one thing that needs attention (bug).

When exporting domains to CSV from the new interface, the data for columns H Domain Score, I Expiration Date, and J Description sometimes shifts into the wrong columns. I suspect this happens when the Domain Score field is missing for some domains, which pushes the subsequent fields out of alignment.

@Atom.com Also, all of my domains show "Minimal" for the Lander Type in CSV export, which isn't correct.

If itโ€™s a test, then itโ€™s affecting some accounts (all their domains) and that doesnโ€™t feel right. I prefer transparent pricing from the start so I turned downpayments off. Not a big deal, I can live without them on Afternic, therefore Iโ€™m not interested in contacting Atomโ€™s support. And Iโ€™m not playing the premium game so I can easily switch to other landers.

I don't use down payments because it can confuse the buyer, sticking to monthly installments of the same amount is easier, people like easy.

I wonder if Next Venture has moved a large portion of their portfolio away from Atom ? The Str has always been around 1.75% but had now shot up to over 3%. Not really possible unless their portfolio has shrunk by a lot.
