Atom / Atom.com - Marketplace (formerly Squadhelp)

Hey Folks,

I've just started using squadhelp.com to list some of my brandable. So far I have 76 domains listed, there is no fee to list. I've had some decent action so far in the way of interested buyers but no sales as of yet. I've only been with them for 1 week now.

A bit of a summary review of SquadHelp:

PROS
  • No Listing fee
  • No Logo design fee
  • Ability to submit your names to end users holding naming contests
  • Ability to chat directly or send a message directly to end users.
  • Stats of your marketplace domains are shown in the marketplace dashboard.
  • Their customer service and support has been great, 24hr a day chat.
  • Ability to increase or decrease the list price of your domains or to show a discount. You can decrease or increase the price yourself by $200. If you want to lower more, you can contact support.
  • End users can shortlist your domains before they make a decision on which they want to purchase. The number of shortlists is shown in you marketplace dashboard.
  • When you submit your names you get to set the price you wish to get. Because their commissions are high I recommend listing at a higher price to offset the commission costs.
  • Their landing pages are fairly basic but they work. Because the marketplace is fairly new, I'm sure we will see style improvements in the future.
  • One thing I really like is they accept multiple extensions. I have listed .co and .io along with .com
  • Each seller gets a direct link to their marketplace portfolio, HERES MY PORTFOLIO. It is handy if your trying to p[promote your portfolio through social media.
  • I like that their marketplace doesn't have tens of thousands domain listings like BB. They are fairly strict on the domains they accept to list and so this helps keep the number of domains in the marketplace down and gets your listings more exposure.
CONS
  • Their commissions are very high, depending on the domain name they are usually between 30% and 35%. However, there are no listing fees, no logo design fees, so in the end their commission is very similar to brand buckets.
  • Their logos are not top quality, in fact I requested to have some of my logos remade.
  • I think they have a big backlog of logos to design, the wait time for logo design has been around 1 week, but your names are still listed while the logos are being designed.
  • After your names are accepted you need to agree to their commission rate, at this point you also need to apply your own keywords, descriptions etc. I found this was very time consuming.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

One disadvantage is that Atom sets 2000+ minimum price for my names and that excludes one crucial buyer category that have budget 2K max..

So you pay 30% commission to Atom and 30,% to GD if the buyer prefers GD
that's not how it works. under this scenario GD gets the sale, but to comply with Atom's rules, the price at GD has to be marked up at least 10% higher than Atom's price (so Atom has the competitive pricing advantage)

10% is not that crucial not to buy trust that GD let's say offers. The buyer has done it as I have read on Twitter or here.

I unchecked "Net" from the Table view settings, and it caused this glitch where it shifted the values around while still keeping the calculator icon. Strangely, it only affects the Premium name view, the standard names show correctly.

Also, would be nice if we could arrange the order of the columns.

i've also asked @Atom.com for this ability long ago. I hope they add someday. Some of these columns are worthless and clog up my screen

So I have 50 premium accepted and 100+ identified as potential fit premium. Can someone experienced please tell me if there is any real benefit in switching from plus to premium, since both are searchable?

The names, theoretically, get a lot more views. They'll come up first in search results on the site and they benefit more from Atom's advertising.

A few suggestions:

1. You offer several choices for your daily emails of domains added to the Wholesale Marketplace. Add another one: Premium only.

2. In the Wholesale Marketplace, allow us to filter by the domain score. You do it in the auctions.

3. Randomize the domain results in the Wholesale Marketplace when you first enter it and don't select any filters. (If I see linked biz one more time, I may go crazy. Does everyone see the same domain?)

4. Put if the domain was previously rejected back in your domain appraisal tool.

5. Could we get at least a really brief explanation for why a domain is rejected? It could help people submit better names and speed up your work. (I just had 2 9+ score domains rejected. They're both 5 letters and .com.)

I previously gave some of the suggestions to your support team, who passed them on. It's been awhile, so thought I'd mention them here.

New feature? Looks like it just pulls the Atom appraisal price.

(During upload)

Update: Seems like it doesn't actually stick, it only wants you to upgrade to premium with that price.

@Atom.com

Great list. I'd add one more. When we shortlist a name when in the wholesale marketplace, allow us to get back to the Wholesale name when in our "shortlist". our shortlist only takes us back to the retail page (meaning there really is no shortlist option for the Wholesale Marketplace

I have an issue when I search for something on the ATOM website, I cannot go to the other pages of the search results, it seems stuck, I click on 2.3 page etc.
When I use incognito it works, but not on the normal Chrome browser, it works on Mozilla as well. Has Anyone had the same problem?
I chatted with ATOM, they suggested two three possible solutions (clean cache etc), nothing worked..
Sometimes even the search function seems completely stuck or takes ages to work..

Same. Cleared caches. Happens to me on both Chrome and FF.

You don’t transfer names to Atom. They are not a registrar. You verify ownership and point nameservers to Atom for names you list at Atom.

Atom ToS require you to give 30 days notice for names you plan to delist from Premium. That includes names you plan to let expire.

No, it is an unnecessary expense for names you intend to sell.
Edit: This was from a relatively long time ago and I wasn't paying attention. It was probably addressed in the meantime.

I've never had them make a problem for expired domains that I don't renew. Have you heard of this? If you don't renew it, you aren't obligated to let them know first. But you should keep your account clear of names that you no longer possess.

@Atom.com I like Sapphire - but the folks who figure out what is exceptionally strong dictionary and what is not are bonkers :wacky: In what world are Busboy, Outdone & SamSam exceptionally strong dictionary names? And in what world are Vlog, Qubit, & Kickstart not? I even had CS and my Atom acct mgr double check. Still denied.

Ironic I emailed Atom about their Sapphire acceptance (for my own domains). I specifically mentioned samsam is not a English dictionary word or a word in common usage. I also told them samsam is a children's tv show so there is a trademark issue.

I also had to over explain Qubit is an English dictionary word in common usage with 297 exact match TLD's.

And no they did not accept my qubit domain.

Everything is searchable now, and from my POV, here are the basic advantages:

Standard: Searchable with a low commission. Do it yourself.

Plus: Searchable plus the ability to join special marketplaces like Sapphire plus brokers plus some marketing promotion.

Premium: Searchable with the ability to join special marketplaces like Sapphire plus brokers plus enhanced seller tools plus greater exposure in search and external marketing promotion.

Standard isn't searchable.

If you want to downgrade from Premium to Plus, what should you do?

My Qubit domain has not been accepted either.
SamSam however, which is not an exceptionally strong dictionary word, remains.

Maybe I should submit BobBob and MaxMax and SueSue :xf.rolleyes:

So I did a test and "super boosted" one of my Premium finance names for a week. I'm in day 6 of 7.

Prior to the Super Boost, the name had 157 views and 14 shortlists.
6 days into the weekly boost, the name had 169 views and 14 shortlists.

Atom also gives it a Top 10 rating in its marketplace (which at 12 views over 6 days cannot be true).

Seems like Super Boost has a tough time doing anything of note when there are 300,000+ other names to peruse.
