Hello all,

I got an email from an individual who wants to know my asking price for :

P r e t o r i a j o b s.com

I hand regged this name in 2006.

I've never gotten an email like this and dont' exactly know the best way to respond. What price do you think i should start with? . I'll keep you all updated as to how it goes from here. Thanks very much..

.US domains.US domains
Heavily populated industrial center in South Africa is positive. Not taken in any other extensions, no traffic to speak of, extremely low Google frequency, no OVT, etc. hurt the value.

Did you do your homework on the person making the offer? If it is a domainer I wouldn't expect more than low $xxx. If is an end user you might be able to get high $xxx to low $x,xxx unless it is a wealthy company, and then you can go for more.

I wouldn't have posted the actual domain though, this thread is already #3 in Google for PretoriaJobs.com. If the person making the offer Googles it, they're going to see you asking what it is worth and that ruins your bargaining power.

Good luck.

Thanks alot Michael. You're correct about alot of things. I shouldn't have posted the name the way i did, but eh, i'll have to learn next time. On domaintools, i see the person owns 47 other domain names, so they might be a reseller. I tried doing some searches, but nothing solid really came up.YOu think i should ask for $300? If i sell, i don't want to undersell, thats my issue. I'll check back tomorrow morning for responses on this thread and send the guy an email.

Any other opinions?

I asked for $350, and he countered with $50. I told him i won't sell for that price.

the domain is worth far more to an interested party than that. even if the guy is operating out of his spare room.
some people call offers like this 'rabbit droppings' lol

i woiuldnt even consider $350 tbh but now you said it , just email back and say last email you will send as your time is money and the domain is worth money.

$350 offer good for 5 days, then offer off table. u should have asked min $1k imo as just not worth the arseache for low xxx sales. also endusers don't come very often. allegedly  :notme:

i guess i just dug myself a more underachieving hole.........

He responded and said he is meeting with his partner and that i should tell him my "best price". Out of a need to sell i guess, i told him i'd accept $200, with him paying escrow fees. I won't be mad if i sell for that price, but i wish i had stuck to $350, which could be a feasible end price.

Sorry to flip flop, but i sent him a message saying i'm withdrawing the $200 price, and that i'm only accepting $350, with him paying escrow fee. If he has a partners, that mofo can pay $350!

I don't think it was wise to flip flop. I wouldn't do business with someone who quotes me one price & on a whim changes it before I could even provide an answer on the price.

i agree. It was a naive move, but i'll be damned if i sell for a price i don't like or want...

My advice is make your final decision before responding. You would hate it if someone did that to you.

This is irrelevant imho. When has BD ever done that within such a short period of time? I know they have done it over time but within one response? Bad business practice to change right after sending a price out.

i agree with you, but this guy is a noob who is sending out his first reply and hashed it.

imho the 'buyers' threw away their chance when they offered $50. that was an insult. trick is for the seller to learn from this and spend some time analysing what he should do rather than jumping in with 2 feet, for his next sale.

i would never do this myself as im sure you wouldnt but this guy is new, give him a break. the fact hes asking advise shows that.

also this is a solid domain imho and he has priced way too low, he should have asked some advise before replying.

I'm very curious too Cobainer! lol. Well i told him $200, then i withdrew and said i was standing firm at $350. He says he has a partner he will be working on this "project" with, but who knows whats true and whats not. Either way, the fact that he mentioned he has a partner, i feel he wants to develop the name, and if he does, he and his partner should be able to pay $350. He hasn't responded yet, but i don't think the deal is canned yet.

GL & hopefully you get the deal closer or even better one afterwards. I hope you don't think I was harsh towards you, just offering some solid advice for future use & to protect your reputation.

thanks for your input. I guess $50 was all the guy had to offer  . Either way, i've learnt a good chunk on how negotiations and pricing should go.

:td: dont think such words should be used here, and i would never call someone like that ... especially if i want to sell him something :(

I think general suggestion would be: Try to think like you were buyer. Would you offer him 1000$ on start ?
