I am another nube, but I agree that it will have limited value. It wont get type-ins, and to get genericword.asia is not that valuable as getting up in the search engine rankings will be a struggle due to competition. Right?

I think you missed the potential.

Europe is fractionated with a 193 search engines. Asia can work more harmonioulsy, even if there are geopolitical problems that are manifest. For purposes of profitability, these will be summarily swept under the carpet.

Not eliminated...but. for purposes of economics, subdued.

.asia will become tantamount to .com throuhout Asia and the sub-Continent, as they will be " branding " their region.

As we speak, today, there are major U.S. corporations that are re-toolong their entire marketing and informational feeds to fit inside the .asia envelope, as that is the market of the future.

WalMart impoorts 12% of all the products that China produces.
WalMart is also responsible for 19% of all buinesses that fold in America also because the are, essentially, 677 stores in 1.

When they decide to sell the same product that the small retailer is selling...their economies of scale will run that retailer out.

Embrace .asia....as it is a force to be reckoned with...

Respectfully,

Dr. Maguire

dotMobi has been, and continues to be, quite lucrative for me. Most of the domaining for .asia is taking place via the ongoing auctions. It will be difficult in the short term for most names to surpass those values by much. In general, if you do register .asia, just make sure you don't register junk. If you believe in the extension, obtain a few great names (and pay a little more), and wait for them to appreciate. It's speculative (and my fail), but it's much more likely to be successful than by directly gathering dozens of really poor, unsellable-in-any-extension domains.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think the only ones making money are mobi domainers selling to other mobi domainers? I don't see many mobi domains that are setup just for mobile users. I don't own any because I see it as a kind of pyramid scheme almost. With the typing restrictions, I would prefer to have a short domain of some other kind than something longer with .mobi...

I'm still not sure about .asia. All the asia countries have their own TLD and it's shorter like .cn and .in. And they are also cheaper right now (.cn $3 and .in $4). While English is a second language in many asian countries, I don't know what they think of it as a TLD, but I'm guessing that .com is still seen as the "luxury brand" and everything else is second rate.

I'll tell you this though, if they dropped the first year price down like we are seeing with .info, .in, and .cn I would buy a bunch of them, at least for the first year.

Thanks for the perspective. Asian businesses tend to be country specific or global with fewer inbetween pan-Asian?

i really dont see this extension growin much like i said its goin to be the same thing as the .mobi domainers makin money off of hopes of an extension.

Maybe, but you have to realize that mobi was created in part because phones could only use WAP to display content. They took so long to lauch the TLD that by the time they did it was not long before the technology started to allow people to have "real" web browsers in their phone.

So the advantage of having a TLD just for phones has lost most of not all of it's meaning in my opinion.

.ASIA is much different, since it is not connected to any one country. I think it will give those in Asia a good option since .coms are hard to find and/or expensive. But I admit I don't know if it will catch on that much. But if you could have chinesefood.biz and chinesefood.asia, which would you choose...?

English is used a lot in business in generall, and it is a second language in Japan and India(I think).

The fact that you are supposed to have a business in Asia may help, but I see that Directi has some kind of offer to let people say they have an office there if the register a .asia domain.
