Hi,

is there any value in the .asia extension?

I'm asking because I see a lot of names with strong keywords being parked (like gas, invest, etc.)

Also according to dnsaleprice.com there were only 5(?) sales last year (2013)

what's your opinion?

Thanks

Look at reported sales. This is what you just did. If you only see 5 reported sales in one year, this is a clear sign there isn't a market really. This is even keeping in mind that reported sales are only the tip of the iceberg and that sales below the 1K threshold are possibly not reported.

dnsaleprice doesn't report sales lower than 1k but namebio does (min.$100)

what I found strange on the .asia extension is the amount of domains that have been registered. That was actually the reason I started the thread. I was curious as to why there are so many registered and idle.

I thought there was something going on there that I still haven't read on any news/blogs or forums

There are other TLDs that have more regs yet they are as unpopular as .asia.
A lot of defensive regs, speculative regs or handregs, but that doesn't mean people would buy one on the aftermarket.
