question Are private offers and “DM for price” threads normal here?

Still getting familiar with how deals usually happen here, so I’m hoping some of the regulars can give a quick reality check.

I’ve noticed quite a few sales threads where the seller just says “DM for price” or “serious buyers message me,” instead of putting an actual price in the post.

A couple of times I messaged about a name and the price I got privately was very different from what similar names seem to go for publicly. Maybe that’s just negotiation, but it made me curious how common that approach is here.

So a few questions for the people who’ve been trading here a while:

First, is it normal for sellers to keep pricing private instead of posting a clear asking price?

Second, when you get a price in DMs, do you usually take it at face value or check other marketplaces first to see if the same name is listed somewhere else?

And finally, do most buyers here prefer transparent pricing, or is the private negotiation part just how domain deals usually happen on forums?

Not accusing anyone of anything, just trying to understand how things normally work around here before jumping into bigger purchases.

It's normal for some sellers to do this, yes.

There's a good chance it's listed elsewhere for a much higher amount.

And finally, do most buyers here prefer transparent pricing, or is the private negotiation part just how domain deals usually happen on forums?
Negotiations almost always happen in direct messages, similar to negotiations by email.

It would clog up the sales thread if negotiations happened publicly.

Yes, its quite common here and across many domain marketplaces. Some sellers prefer “DM for price” because it allows flexibility in negotiation and helps gauge buyer interest. As a buyer its always a good idea to do quick research and check comparable sales or other marketplaces before making an offer. Transparency is appreciated by many buyers but private negotiation has been part of the domain industry for a long time.
