Let's say I have the companyname.com version of a non-profit's name. The non-profit's domain may fall under one or more of the following variations: company-name.com, companyname.net, companynameonline.com, etc. There are no related trademarks are owned by them or related companies. There may be multiple companies with similar names that would have an interest in the .com.

How would I approach the non-profit to sell them my .com?

Wouldn't they be more suitably interested ... in the .ORG's?

This is more or less hypothetical. If I owned companyname.org and they owned company-name.org or companynameonline.org - how do I approach them about buying companyname.org from me?

Have you found an approach?

I guess the approach would be to offer them the domain name, so they can "protect" their clients from scammer website with similar name?

If it matches exactly what they would possibly need and is an upgrade to what they have, then offer it to them.

But since your talking about a company, make sure there isn't a trademark on the word/words.
