If a phrase is only spelled with a hyphen, is hyphenated .com justifiable?

Let's say a regular hyphenated .com like home-furniture.com has worth of a non-hyphenated .net or even less. But what if the phrase is hyphenated (is always spelled with a hyphen, never with a space) and non-hyphenated version looks confusing. Does it increase value?

Thanks

It could help but still any hyphenated domain is difficult finding a buyer.

Hyphenated domains have solid value in Germany for example, because the German language is basically made up of compound words:

Donaudampfschifffahrtselektrizitรคtenhauptbetriebswerkbauunterbeamtengesellschaft

(Danube-steam-ship-electric-main-power-works-under-officers-club) LOL

In any case a hyphenated domain may well have value to an end user for example Pool-Cleaning-Miami.com may be easier to read & remember than poolcleaningmiami.com

I respectfully disagree with anybody who claims that hyphens are worth less to end users, to domainers they may well be perceived as being worth less, and the "radio test" may be a thing with domainers, but end users are usually looking for a relevant and easy to remember domain name and the hyphens may not be seen as a bad thing at all.

Hi

this is not necessarily true, as the .com could get type-in traffic, and the .net probably wouldn't.

but to your question, in most cases a buyer would like to have both versions.
ie: in-house vs inhouse/ athome vs at-home / bio-tech vs biotech

imo...

You don't see a lot of sales for hyphenated domains. Not saying they must be avoided at all costs, it's a question of language and culture too.

I'd rather go for something like home.furniture rather than home-furniture.com. I certain niches where keyword competition is fierce, I've had some success in selling hyphenated dot org and dot net domains. Like in the auto shipping niche.

But I'd take a keyword rich new extension over a hyphenated .com any day.

if it is always hyphenated then, domain name also should be. That is what user will recognize as valid. Best would be to redirect non-hyphenated to hyphenated one.

I have one hyphenated domain

V-chip

Dotcom

There is the v-chip tv sensoring tech that bought the .org for over 10k many years ago.

Now there is some new bloodwork lab testing tech called a v-chip changing the game in the medical field.

Even something that isn't supposed to be hyphenated may have value, yes.

As an example, creditland.com and credit-land.com is held by the same website but it's using the hyphenated version and emphasize it on their logo.

There's also one startup company using two hyphens for their site, not exactly sure why but it seems they want it to be fully readable for anyone visiting. I say this cause two versions of the phrase can be done with only one hyphen. One's parked and the other one's available for registration. Still, the company chose 2 hyphens. It doesn't look polished but they're lucky it's short overall. Actually this company isn't a startup, more like rebranded.

So you might have to pick which phrases you hyphenate and still have to decide on other factors. There are only a few reasons you can hyphenate.
