In the last few hours I did an account change for a domain I own, and I have done this on numerous occasions at GoDaddy so I am fully up to speed on the process. However, the last time I remember doing it was earlier this year and as a refresher I followed the instructions on the GoDaddy website for an account change.
(NOTE: As part of the Account Change I choose the Step 7 option 'Use details from specified customer account'.)

Account change: https://uk.godaddy.com/help/move-a-domain-to-another-godaddy-account-822

Anyway, having completed the final step of the process I then got an email from GoDaddy which had the Subject line 'Please approve your contact info. update.' And within the email was a link that said 'Review Contact Info Changes' which I clicked on and was taken to GoDaddy screen on which was my Contact info and the Contact Info of the domain owner who I was 'pushing' the domain to at GoDaddy.
However, this extra Step is not outlined on the Account Change instructions so I am very wary about initiating the Contact Info Update in case it somehow locks my domain and I then can't finalise the domain push.
I spend over 1 hour trying to get an answer on GoDaddy chat but unfortunately the support person was unable to assist me so I have turned to Namepros for help on this one.

For the record I also found the following link on GoDaddy, https://uk.godaddy.com/help/new-icann-registrant-update-requirements-24654, and although it does not specifically mention whether the 'Review Contact Info Changes' is required during an Account Change, when you read the 'Icann Requirements' it does sound like it is a 'New' step which should form part of an Account Change but GoDaddy could not clarify that for me:

Let me know if you have done an account change in the last few days and if you have, whether or not you were sent an email asking you to 'Review Contact Info Changes'.

I have had two domains pushed into my gd acct in the last couple weeks on separate occasions, both times I had to approve my contact info update. It was only after I approved this contact info update email I received my account change notification. I haven't done an outbound push but I'm assuming they added this extra step for some 'security' reason... Anyway subscribing to the thread to learn more about the change.

Godaddy has already revised its way of conducting domain push (account change). You'll now receive an email from Godaddy asking you to approve your contact info update. It now requires confirmation of contact info changes (both for the current and the new registrant). You need to approve this. After your approval, your present status will indicate "Pending update" as the other party has to approve it as well. Once the new registrant approves it, the domain name will be pushed to his account.

GoDaddy now sends an email to both parties, the admin email of the new contact and the admin email of the old or losing contact for approval before any contact information is changed. Don't think it affects the transfer or push. I just had an outbound to a buyer at GoDaddy. Once the domain was in the buyer's account, I checked whois and it was still my information. I emailed buyer to remind them to change contact information. I receveived an email from GoDaddy asking my approval which I did. Buyer received an email which he misread and did not click approval link. 5 days later I got email from GoDaddy saying since both parties did not approve, contact information will not be changed. Buyer had to initiate contact change again and with both approvals, all went well this time.

Thanks 4better and WeSell-Domains.

Is this new step 'in addition' to what the domain recipient would have done in the past i.e. after I initiate the Account Change the domain recipient would have to Login to their GoDaddy account and click on Pending Account Changes and follow the instructions.

So can you please clarify if the following Steps are what's required to do an Account Change at GoDaddy or is Step 4 no longer required or does it have to be done before Step 3?

Step 1: I initiate the Account Change for the domain.
Step 2: I get an email from GoDaddy asking me to Approve Contact Info Update, which is the Contact info of the domain recipient. And I approve that Contact Info Update.
Step 3: The domain recipient also gets an email from GoDaddy asking them to also approve the Contact Info Update. The recipient approves the Contact Info Update.
Step 4: The domain recipient then clicks on Pending Account Changes and follows the instructions.

When initiating the account change, after entering the recipient's email address and customer number, you are asked 3 questions:
  • Enter new details โ€” Enter contact information for the new registrant.
  • Use details from specified customer account โ€” Use contact information from the account you entered in step 6. (This won't work until the specified customer has setup their settings page to include all necessary information.)
  • Do not change โ€” Retain the contact information currently assigned to the domain name you're moving.
If you choose "Do not change", then step 4 comes before step 3 and is the one I always use. Less hassle for the one pushing the domain. If you choose either of the first two methods, then step 3 has to be completed. Hint: for ease of account move, always choose "Do not change". IMO

Many thanks. As it happens I choose 'Use details from specified customer account' when moving the domain so I will ask the domain recipient to complete Step 3 first and then do Step 4.

The domain buyer is non-technical so I just wanted to be able to walk him through the process step by step as if it's confusing for me after all these years, then it sure as hell will be confusing for someone doing it for the first time.
And the GoDaddy support page which details an Account Change has no mentioned of this 'new' extra step.

I looked at GoDaddy support for this information this mornging and you are correct, it does not mention this anywhere. Very confusing.

A final thanks to those who replied with your advice on this one. The domain has been successfully moved to the recipients account on GoDaddy.

I find it depressing that the GD rep was unable to help with this. This should be basic information for them, especially with this change in the transfer procedure.

For those that are still learning the new push process. I pushed a domain and the buyer got the approval email but the domain was still pending in my account after 5 days. So, I called Godaddy and here is the link that Godaddy sent me. Accepting domain account changes
After I forwarded this email to the buyer he received the push after he followed the steps.
I was using this option. Use details from specified customer account โ€” Use contact information from the account you entered in step 6.
I dont use that option anymore, I use Do Not Change and it goes smooth, just tell buyer to change contact info after he receives the domain,

I agree, very sad, no help from GD rep. I have found them to be most unhelpful lately which is one of the reasons why I do not use GoDaddy much anymore. I actually got an email from them about this change sometime back (could not find where I saved it tho). Seems I remember the letter indicated it was an ICANN security change but no other registrar that I use had done this.

The GD rep unfortunately was totally lost when it came to trying to help me. After 1 hour of chat I was still no closer to getting an answer to my question apart from the GD rep pointing me towards the support page that shows the Account Change process and then asking me if I followed all the Steps.
Basically, they just seemed to be following a Tick list and my problem did not feature on that Tick list so they didn't know what to advise.
In the end I had to close the Chat and came on here and I had an answer from 'nicedomains' in less than 10 minutes. And more follow-up answers from WeSell-Domains and 4better were also greatly appreciated. I love Namepros :xf.smile:

I've been having a lot of problems with GD transfers and even pushes lately. Another NP user gave a good tip when in chat with a rep: if the rep is clueless, ask him/her to ask help from 'advanced support team' and that should do it. Worked for me.

I think both parties have to confirm the push no matter the registrar due to the new icann regulations.

It's fairly new so I think it's an oversight in training and not a collapse of their support system.
