Anyone boycotting godaddy over their initial stance supporting sopa? Even though they changed there stance to more of a neutral stand point i refuse to use them. They pretty much pulled bak their statement because they realized that they would loose business.. I have always hated godaddy

No, but I heard they lost over 100,000 domains because of it. I think they got the message but they are still a good service. I am glad there is big support for stopping SOPA.

I'm boycotting Wikipedia for today though.

Who cares if they supported SOPA? What difference does it make? Every registrar has issues... which one are you shifting too? Let me know and I'll find a reason you should boycott them too before you move too many domains

I haven't completely cut them off, but of course I'm keeping my account as most domainers use GoDaddy for pushes.

Also, it's hard to beat the $1.99 .INFO and $3.99 .US prices.

I have avoided godaddy for years now, so if that counts, then yes.

I have an account there with ZERO domains in it. Everything gets moved out of Godaddy 61 days after it's pushed into my account.

In the last 30 days, godaddy is down about half a million domains. They're down about a million domains in the last 2 months.

Regardless of sopa.. Godaddy has been going down hill for years. I think it is also attributed to the increase of knowledge of the web and domains by people. I'll always be loyal to namecheap

Most of my domains have been transferred away from Godaddy -- all due to Bob Parsons. His values (pro-SOPA, elephant safari) are not worthy of my business. It is difficult to beat Godaddy prices though.

Namecheap started off as an enom reseller.. And is itself an accredited Icaan registrar..

Second, namecheap is anti sopa pipa. About a week ago they held a campaign to raise money to fight the bill.

So NAMECHEAP shuts your website down because someone filed a complaint to legitscript. I guess that's ok then.. must be other parts of the Bill you don't like that don't include just having your site shutdown based on just a report.

Actually they don't shut you down immediately - they give you 10 days to transfer the domain to another registrar that doesn't have a contract with LegitScript, like say GoDaddy.

Namecheap is not enom, it is / was a enom reseller. They have been rolling out there own system in phases ever since it was accredited by Icaan in 2007. Verification is required but from my understanding domains registered with Namecheap in the last few were a direct liability of Namecheap, not enom

Legitscript and sopa are two separate things. It's like comparing cats and dogs. Legitscripts is a seperate entitie from the government that monitors and petitions domain registrars to shut down sites that sell pharmaceuticals without requiring a prescription . There is no law that states a domain company must comply the stipulations of Legitscript and Legitscript itself cannot enforce legal action as it is not a government enforced program. It's a guidance, not a legislation policy in other words. Personally I cod careless of NC abides by Legitscripts because I do not generally deal with pharm medical content in general.

Sopa on the other hand would mean that domain registrars and site owners alike must comply with the regulations set forth by the federal government and sites can be shut down with virtually no warning.
Sopa jeopardizes the Internet in a broader sense than that of legit scripts.


For the record, I never said that Namecheap was perfect.. Even beauty has its flaws

NameCheap are still using eNom's servers, so they are still a reseller.

I like GoDaddy a lot. But I've been transferring my domains because they block your IP address if you do too many whois lookups in a day. The only domains I have left on Godaddy are those which have a 60 day hold on them or domains I am dropping.

I have an account with Godaddy but no domains. I have all of mine in namecheap and internetbs. I am not really loyal to any services lately, I am simply fine with knowing that they work.

A few years back, I pulled most of my domains from Godaddy and moved them all to Moniker. I've slowly added/moved names back to Godaddy, mostly because of the price. A few dollars here and there adds up quickly!

I used to have about 600 domains at Godaddy and my own rep. Then I got sick of their crap and started using domainsite, name, namecheap, and dynadot. Now Godaddy has two of my domains and they will expire soon. They never appreciated me and I lost my rep when my domains went below a certain level. Guess I know what they care about ($). Way to build loyalty. Nice customer service. Now I am 90% at dynadot since they like me and give me super bulk (reseller-level) pricing.

Don't get me started on Namecheap, they are losing my business after many happy years. Why? They are spam-friendly. They are the only registrar I can report spam to who state they refuse to act upon the reports. PublicDomainRegistry is the most responsive to spam reports.
