There are several threads ongoing about Afternic so it was easier to start a new one here with the big picture of what is going on. A few weeks ago we had a major release which did away with the escrow process on Afternic and started a new service called Transaction Assurance. There are several main reasons why we did it, two of the big ones being:
1. Compliance - We are not an escrow company and using this new flow allows us to be compliant to all laws in the areas we operate which is very important for everyone.
2. Ease of use - Much of what we have done over the past 2 years around the Aftermarket is being done to reduce overall friction for the buyer and seller to allow domains to move to buyers easier and make managing your domains for sale easier.

There are other reasons for doing this which tie into a bigger picture of other projects we have in line for the coming year or so which also allow for better sales for our sellers such as faster payment times and more International payment options as well as better/easier domain management and some bigger improvements that have been asked for by customers for a while.

The project was not rushed or left untested. In fact we put in over 8 man years of labor on it and did extensive testing. Part of the project involved us integrating with two 3rd party providers to help with International payments and communications. These are big name companies with a track record of success and utilizing their tools behind the scenes will help everyone in the long run to be able to sell more domains easier.

Obviously things have not gone as well as we would have liked, but we are actively working on resolving the issues around communication and payments. We have had meetings at the highest levels to take care of this as a very high priority. As of today we believe most email communication issue are resolved.

We are not only meeting about things we are actively deploying new code and changes and other teams are working to manually jump in and help out so we can get answers for our customers and make sure they are being paid. I personally saw many people working late nights and over the weekends doing what they could to keep improving the processes because our customers are very important to us. We have a good team who have all pulled together to try and help it is not just me on the forum answering questions I couldn't do it without the help of our Aftermarket teams.

I think we are very close to having a smoothly operating process again with a better ultimate process for the future which will allow you to grow with us and continue to sell domains at a better rate of return. Thank you for your patience and for being a customer.

If you are waiting for payment the #1 thing I have seen resolve this the fastest is to login to your Afternic account and go to your payment settings. Make sure that you have a payment set up as a default option and that is correct. We migrated all the old payment information into the new system. If you are in doubt or cannot find a way to select a default payment option it is faster to create a new payment method (even using the same info you already have) and select that new payment method as your default. Doing this will tell the system to try and pay you for any outstanding balance you are owed.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
But why? It says your passwords, credit card data might get stolen lol. Why cant they make it https like everyone else?

Because they want to maintain the same standard they have in only allowing alphanumeric passwords and by default exposing usernames and a list of the domains in that account, and not offering 2FA. All that on a site offering fast transfer - if someone hacks into your account and sets the BIN at $20, their accomplice can buy it, and the domain leaves your registrar before you even know..

Guess people gotta turn off that fast transfer option. Well I was thinking of finally listing domains with them but afternic is on a whole another level.
I am surprised in all these years why haven't anyone noticed that before and
if anyone pointed it out ( I'm sure someone must did) then why didn't Afternic bother to do something about it. @Joe Styler

I have been trying to list this domain name into my account but it wouldn't let me. I checked and there was no .com listed on afternic for that keyword except a .net. @Joe Styler Please help me out. I emailed Afternic about this and no one has done anything about it.

You should wait for a couple of days, they always respond. I've already done this several times, and every time they remove the old listing.

The usernames and login and password security issues are well known and have been raised many times here, in several threads. Afternic don't even reply to questions about this.

Just a recent example:
https://www.namepros.com/threads/pr...ic-report-problems-here.1006373/#post-6046462

This has been an open invitation to hackers and trouble and they just ignore it - they certainly have the money to fix this whenever they want.

That is weird... This should typically not happen. Now you're going to make me go and visit each of my Afternic directed domains...

Btw, CareerCounsel is a fantastic name...

I'll be happy to take it off your hands ;)
Lol. That's if you can offer me an irresistible offer bro. I didn't acquire it cheap either and i think the guy I battled with in the final is likely huge domains and you know what that means going by their record of trying to outbidding you.

It cost me high $xxx at that time. If you are really serious, feel free to PM and we might work something out.

how much do you think career counsel is worth to an end user?

the domain in question (career counsel) - does it have _editable_ parking settings (keywords etc) inside afternic account? I noticed that for some domains parking config is editable, and for some domains it is not. I was never able to receive a satisfactory reply from afternic why is this.

Why I'm seeing what I'm seeing? All other sites show secure. It is only happening with afternic's site.
We will take a look at it. I tried a couple ways to duplicate it and it looks like if you are using an incognito window or have not been to Afternic before it shows that and once you are there once it will show secure. If you type in https://www.afternic.com it will force the ssl to load and then do so from then on as well. It shouldn't work like that of course so we will look into it. Thanks for bringing it up.

Huge .htaccess (or related file on other types of servers) issues on afternic.

My initial request I type in usually doesn't resolve right away. This is related.

I have to reload or sometimes it reloads itself and gets me where I want to go.

Many of the people I was sending to afternic landing pages were seeing blank pages for months (unless they magically knew to reload the page).

when you say that what do you mean exactly so we can look into it? Do you mean when you type a domain to search or try to login etc? Thanks.

Actually, seems like it's fast and snappy now! Might be moving some domains back after a small test.

Good job on whatever update was done!

@Joe Styler

On the 18th of July I have sold a domain via Afternic.

Everything went smooth so no problems about that BUT the domain name ( now @ GoDaddy as per request ) STILL SHOWS MY WHOIS INFO and I would like to know why as per ICANN rules the info have to me updated.

Can you please explain? Thank you

@NameOmnia , I have this problem with EVERY NAME i sell through Afternic or through the Godaddy platform.. They asked me to send proof of name, address, phone number and so-on.. told them it's not the right info, but I'm not going to start sending documentation.. it sold on their platform.. they should know.. so now there's several names with my whois still remaining even after the sale.. apparently they can't force the buyer to put their info... the department that deals with this has the following email: [email protected]

It depends on how the domain name sold. Most times we can now force the buyer to change the WHOIS that was also a win we gained from using the newer payment system - Transaction Assurance we released a few months back. If the sale already took place in the past you will need to email [email protected] to get the domain name updated.

Like I said the domain was sold on the 18th of July 2017 and with all due respect I am not contacting anyone or sending anything around. This is something Afternic and Godaddy have to fix.

Transaction Assurance is what handled my transaction in particular Andrew.

I would really like the whois to be changed thanks
