Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

Hi,

Someone listed TODAY my exclusive Dynadot domain portfolio dynadot.com/user/premiums on Afternic without my permission:

It's the same thing as someone listing your real estate for sale without permission. This kind of scam ruins the reputation of the domain industry. It means platforms like @GoDaddy end up deceiving buyers by offering inventory they don't actually have.

If you like my domains, you must buy them first and only then list them as yours. Selling someone else's property without permission is theft.

Is Afternic slowing down on releasing payments lately, as I sold and transferred a domain a few days ago, but no payment so far. In my experience, it's next business day or maybe even the same day if the sale is early enough.

Never had to wait this long and I'm wondering if this is a 'new trend' I need to adapt to.

You're not alone here.

It's probably the only solution they could come up with to increase "Good as Gold" activations.

Check your landers one by one. I noticed that a bunch of mine were not resolving, despite having the proper nameservers set.

I asked support about it and was told that "it shouldn’t happen too often," and that if it does happen, all I need to do is "resubmit the listing."

When I asked how I am supposed to know that any of hundreds or thousands of domains have randomly stopped resolving properly after they had already been working at some point, I was basically told that "it’s up to the seller to keep checking and making sure their listings are working properly."

And this is the least of it. I pointed out three separate issues, all of which were their fault, and I received an excuse for every single one of them. They basically acted like it was "glitchy by design". Towards the end they even tried gaslighting me into thinking it was my fault after they had already admitted earlier that it was theirs 😂

It’s ridiculous.
This is very bad if their tech support said "it’s up to the seller to keep checking and making sure their listings are working properly."

Has anyone written a macro or something to auto-check a list of domain names to make sure they resolve properly? I haven't done a macro in a while, but it seems like it might be possible. Although I still believe it shouldn't be on the sellers to check their domain names...

And a tip for everyone!!!

Check your domain's availability through Godaddy bulk search from time to time.

I recently decided to return to Afternic (once again  ) and listed around 150 domains. A day later, I checked GD reg path and every lander and everything was displayning correctly. But a few days later I noticed that some landers were no longer working properly (they still loaded, but the prices were missing). I ran a bulk search and discovered that most of the domains were unavailable. Meanwhile, the Afternic dashboard was still showing them as listed, and everything had been working fine just a few days earlier (as I said I checked it myself).

By the way, at the same time I left Afternic, I also unsubscribed from this thread because I was simply tired of asking them to remove those idiotic "estimated values", "why it's great panels", "searches in past 1-yr", that have been showing the same numbers for two years straight, and all the other nonsense.

Now I can see that absolutely nothing has changed since then. Not at GoDaddy, and not in this thread.

But I still can't just scroll past, because their constant screw-ups could literally cost someone a sale.

Yep, and this is always the problem with GoDaddy - their "new products" always take precedence over you.

It would be good if Afternic could provide information about what transactions a payment relates to in their "Payment has been sent" emails. Right now it just states the total amount:

A payment for USD X,XXX.XX was sent to you today by Wire Transfer.

But if I have a minimum payment threshold, and a payment includes several sales and LTO installments, it would be useful to know which ones are included in that payment.

I also have the same issue with about a hundred domains listed without my permission at many times the asking price I have them listed for at Dynadot.

Just this week I received a number of confirmation emails to authorise these Afternic listings via Dynadot which I ignored, but the domains are still listed.

I once asked Afternic to remove a domain listing that I didnt authorise, but they expected me to prove I was the owner even though the email I contacted them with was the same listed in whois as the domain owner.

Im left wondering just how many listings at Afternic/Godaddy may be fraudulent domain listings?

Millions
I deliberately add my names to afternic
and then click not for sale, just because of the dishonesty.
How many other places are your names listed? You don’t know. Frontrunning is.alive and probably doing a number on your sales. People say sales are down well because somebody saw your name somewhere for a quarter of a million. So they bought something else that daddy recommended.

For what reasons does Afternic generally cancel sales after receiving payment ?

Often it's a fraudulent payment method that didn't pass the verification test, like the buyer used a stolen credit card, but there are likely other reasons.

This particular sale was negotiated by Afternic broker. Highly unlikely to be stolen credit cards.

However,it's quite possible that the KYC wasn't sufficient enough, or perhaps the buyer was from a high risk geo.

The most disturbing is perhaps that you're left in the dark.

Like I said, it could anything that didn't pass the verification smell test. The "stolen credit card" was just one very specific example, and there are also a LOT of other "fraudulent payment methods" than just CCs.

In the future if someone says something like:

"It could be a customer verification issue, like an incorrect address"

Don't automatically jump on "incorrect address", and instead concentrate on the main subject of the sentence, which is "customer verification issue".

Ok, the Afternic broker just confirmed that this was neither a fraudulent payment nor a stolen credit card.

The broker is getting the buyer to make the payment again. Good that this sale is not fully lost (yet)!

I got an inquiry on one of my domains sunday night, and it took 48 hours before the broker contacted the buyer even though Afternic/GoDaddy has talked about how important it is to get back to the buyer within 24 hours. Unacceptable in my opinion.

I was really surprised to get this answer from the Afternic sales team when I contacted them:

"We understand your concern regarding the broker assigned to your lead taking 48 hours to respond.

Please note that Afternic does not have direct communication with the brokers, as they operate under GoDaddy. As a result, we are unable to intervene or follow up with them on your behalf."

So the brokers that are responding to offers and inquiries on our Afternic listed domains operate under GoDaddy! Doesn't this create a serious conflict of interest when buyers pay for a GoDaddy broker to help them buy a domain name?

In this scenario, it would mean a GoDaddy broker (representing the buyer) is negotiating with another GoDaddy broker (representing the seller). Can we really trust them??

The GoDaddy broker is always working for the buyer, as that's who the customer is in an Afternic transaction, and no one is working for you other than you.

You can never trust a GD broker, as there are numerous UDRPs clearly demonstrating they are 100% on the buyer's side to a fault.
