Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
.US domains.US domains
Another bug/issue, this time found at self-brokerage.

When someone makes an offer and is asked whether they want to buy the domain, if the answer is No/Cancel offer, that offer is still being sent to the seller officially.

Please @GoDaddy check this and resolve it.

I had an offer on one of my afternic names Saturday night and was sent the offer by the broker. I accepted the offer that night. The broker sent the offer acceptance reply back to the buyer Sunday afternoon. He had conversation with the buyer that day. Broker replied to me sayingโ€ฆwaiting on payment

I asked broker Monday afternoon how it was going. He stated still waiting on payment. As of Monday I donโ€™t have access to my name in GoDaddy, as itโ€™s not showing in my GD account.

No other contact from broker, so again I asked broker Tuesday howโ€™s it going? He says again waiting on payment from buyer. Today nothing. So I guess I just wait it out for payment or contract cancel?

@GoDaddy I am already a ddc member. I have been using the self brokerage. Today your system thinks I am not a member. And now I cannot do anything. Anyone else experiencing this fun?

@GoDaddy How many monthly eyeballs will be lost because of this?

I really wish Afternic brokers would stop exhuming old zombie leads over and over and over, and instead concentrate on working NEW negotiations. I have several outstanding from last week, including one I accepted an offer on, yet all I see hitting the top of my Lead Center are Stalled negotiations from years ago.

As GoDaddy is paywalling Self-Brokerage, I am giving serious thought to "Hiding" all my domains on Afternic (to still protect against fraudsters) so potential buyers are forced to place their Offers elsewhere.
Hi @DomainRecap,
We appreciate the frustration on seeing old leads resurfacing, but we've there's a good reason for this: many brokered sales are closed after strategic follow-ups and building communication with buyers. As a result, we see names closing 6-12, or even 12+ months after the initial outreach.

We'll share some data on this, which we'll highlight here - but there are strategic reasons why this makes sense.

@GoDaddy It would be awesome if you could enable the lease to own option on .US domains at Afternic. I was informed by Afternic support that the .US TLD isnโ€™t supported for some reason.
Thanks for the feedback, @Brian L. We'll check in with the team, and will DM you with more information after that.

Hi @ISD Domains,
We'll follow up via DM.

Hi @End Game,
This sounds like the domain name is on hold in the purchase process - this should be something your broker is able to monitor.

@GoDaddy I am already a ddc member. I have been using the self brokerage. Today your system thinks I am not a member. And now I cannot do anything. Anyone else experiencing this fun?
Hi @Bearded Goat,
Thanks - we're aware of this, and are resolving it.

When every platform is using monopolistic strategies to promote their own marketplace, it's only a matter of time before people abandon them altogether.

This will create more needless work for investors who'll now have to list their names on several marketplaces just to get the same level of exposure.
It'll be particularly gruesome for those who already have thousands of names at Afternic/Sedo.

A waste of time that is detrimental to domain investors.

They are all too scared to compete on the value of their products so they are adopting predatory and monopolistic policies.

Time to seriously consider going with only landers and NO marketplace.

It's goDaddy's fault. They played games with Spaceship not allowing them without egregious fees to become an Afternic FT partner. So NC decided to create it's own powerhouse. They played with fire and lost.

As for domainers, no one cares. What we do care about are businesses. And in a way this creates more work for them. They now have to use multiple reg paths to identify the sale price of a name. It actually makes landers more powerful as it may be easier now to type in the name you want directly, rather than via reg path.

But overall this will hurt medium to lower end sales. Because an NC searcher will now not see the name is for sale - and may just keep searching (rather than understanding they could go direct or to GD to check prices). Same goes for GD searchers when tens of thousands of SellerHub names move off their platform.

For high end sales it won't matter much. Buyers of dictionary names want that specific name and will search to get them wherever they may be

Sedo will feel this.
I sincerely doubt it.

Sedo did not even notice a major outage for 3 days that affected over 1 million customer domains. :xf.grin:

But I get what you're saying.

Will NAMECHEAP (Afternic) domains still show up at GODADDY REGISTRATION path ??

Because if not, then goodbye Namecheap! Not sure why everyone is taking sides in registrar battles when sales WILL GO DOWN for everyone (including you reading this).

Sedo will feel this. These days I don't see too many sales at Sedo but a healthy percentage have been through Namecheap.

Sedo, rofl. Haven't seen one innovation from them in over a decade.

OK. I agree, folks. Sedo won't really care or take note. It will negatively impact their sales but not such that it will impact a weekend, holiday, long lunch, afternoon nap, or maintaining a steady course to oblivion.

The Spaceship Seller's Hub commission @ 5% is rather more palatable than GD's commission. Many would give it a go for that reason alone.

But there has to be surcharges in there somewhere - are withdrawals to Paypal or Wise free at the 5% commission level?

I don't know - haven't used them. However, they say

With that said, this relates to commissions. A lot of providers put withdrawal fees in a different bucket - more of an expense that needs to be reimbursed. To an extent I can understand that, so long as any such fees are transparent. But I don't know how they handle this.
