Hello NamePros!
By popular demand, we have launched a dedicated feedback thread for Afternic, the GoDaddy-owned domain name marketplace.

We have created this thread as a way for you to tell us what works, what doesn't work, and what features you'd like to see at Afternic (please be constructive with your feedback). We're looking forward to hearing from the domain investment community to help us shape the future of Afternic.

We will also be sharing Afternic product updates in this thread.

Please note that this thread is not meant for support. Please email our support team at [email protected] for assistance.

I'm still with Afternic because of the 'dangling carrot' that is the Self-Brokerage Tool.

I'm worried not only about when (if) that actually happens but also the terms applied and the technology of it. Somehow, I do not anticipate a clean, efficient implementation, at least not out of the gate. I feel like they will want to boost the commission or fees above what one might normally expect from a self-brokerage path.

Sedo has the potential, as they have the only alternative in MLS. But for some reason they're run poorly too. Interfaces are poor. I'm not sure about brokers.
Sedo, apparently, is not even trying to be a competitor. They are happy with everything. If they still and after so many requests cannot even provide a CamelCase. But that's their right. At least they work honestly and do not destroy potential competitors, leaving behind a scorched earth.

At least half of all sales come through the GD reg path. And if the potential buyers don't see the domain on GoDaddy, we don't know what percentage of them will go to landing pages or other major registrars supported by Sedo(mls/basic). And this is the only reason why many of us, unfortunately, are still with them.

The issue is that our domains nowadays doesn't appear at godaddy suggested results as it was in the past unless the buyer typed it exact match !
As a suggested results they show crap domains to handreg and promoting their useless other tlds .

I'll say even more. Even if the buyer types exact match, there is no guarantee that they will be able to add the domain to the cart.

dan was at 15% and you did all negotiations yourself, so Godaddy might use this to jump to 20% for all accounts, and 15% for self, they are a for profit business, and there is a reason their stock was up 100% last year. They are enabling competitors to enter space, and could lose domains, sales, and data, they need to evaluate this very carefully.

There is, and it actually has mostly to do with gigantic share buyback programs and pressure from an activist shareholder.

And being forced by said 'activist shareholders' to cuts costs, raise prices, fire employees, close down divisions/subsidiaries, and sell off a big chunk of their premium domain holdings.

This is simply not sustainable over the long term.

But hey, that's GD politics, and all I want is a system that allows me to interact and negotiate with sellers 24/7 and that features are least some level of transaction automation to speed things up.

A 24/7 negotiation window with "Reply", "Decline Offer", "Counter" and "Accept Offer" buttons would be like Christmastime compared to what we have now, which is nothing.

The issue is

dan was at 15%

When Dan was 9% that was the Golden Age of domain sales and it felt good to be alive.

I'm doing pretty good at Dynadot. Name cheap and Spaceship is the one we're all waiting on. That and another up and coming platform is Unstoppable Domains. These 3 platforms will steal a ton of market share from Godaddy. What a great time we will have then. It will be like the Trump administration, but for domains!

I think the main driver in this recent explosion in new domain marketplaces, and expansion in existing ones, is that GD chose to close Dan and keep Afternic.

I really believe that if the reverse happened, and GD closed Afternic and kept Dan running, that this market adjustment would have been muted significantly.

Afternic is more of an archaic afterthought to many, and closing them down would not create even a small ripple in the domain marketplace. Dan was the superior platform and did everything Afternic did and far more.

So by getting rid of Dan, this created a clear opportunity for competitors to jump in.

Do you use Dynadot landers? Pretty basic aint it?

Only buyers who want to pay via Crypto seem to like Dynadot in my experience.

I only have few pointed at Dynadot but my experience was good. I did make sales. Payment could've been quicker however. At least I didn't have to call Afternic about payment because they're not janky about payouts. The founder is cool too.

Do you get the sales from Dynadot purchase path or landing page?

Because Dynadot is part of Godaddy network, so purchase path sales will be via Afternic unless you've listed them via Dynadot separately as well.

I tried to create my own self service sales path alongside the Afternic landing page but my frame was promptly blocked. :)

There must be a way.

Have you tried the new Ai price suggestion?

Good data with similar domains sold but some of those comparable are decades old.
Suggested price: low

Like any automated tools, use it for the data it provides.
