I think best registrar polls should be at the end of the year.

2016 poll was in march. Godaddy won, 52%. Thread by @JB Lions .
2017 poll was in november. Godaddy won 29.8%. Thread by @equity78
There was no poll in 2018.
2019 poll was in june. Namesilo won 24.4%.
2020 poll was in march. Epik won 26.9%.

Here is my idea.
Start poll on the 1st day of december and end it on the last 31st day of december, or from 1st to 15th or 15th to 31st.

So that going into the new year, we can look back and decide who the best registrar was.
Leave it open for a whole month and keep debating so that everyone can see it and vote.
Have public votes (we can see who's voting for who), results only viewable after voting.

Imo its better than march or september polls.
Make it Best Registrar of the Year, so it would make sense to have it at the end of the year.

You'd even have registrars try to bribe us with juicy promotions at the end of the year if they had a date to go by.

With mysterious newcomers, Godaddy finally innovating, DAN brewing serious coffee, Epik in the lab, SAV in the schemes, Namesilo launching their new marketplace (forgot the name), dynadot being efficient and thus able to throw any bomb at any time, 2021 will be exciting to see.

But that would be December 2021.

Last one was March 2020, it's now December 2020, and December 2021 feels like a century ahead.

The question for the poll is, should we do it at the end of year; not should we make another one for 2020.

I am not looking to remove epik's title, they already won, pubicly, from june 2019 to march 2020, it's fact in history, nothing can change it.

But for the sake of far away december 2021 itchy feet syndrome, maybe we could have another one, or not.

In both cases, if we decide to move Namepros Best Registrar of the Year award to the month of December.

If we do, have $1 .com and 0% commission bribes ready in october @Paul Nicks @DAN.COM @Rob Monster @Nick R , @namesilo , @Dynadot .

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I voted yes, makes sense to have it at the end of the year - unless there is some reason for having it in March that I/we are unaware of.......
2016 was by @JB Lions in march.
2017 by @equity78 in november.
No poll in 2018.

I guess it's first person to pull the trigger so we might as well have it organized so that there's no room for ambiguity.

(forgot the name)

How can you forget the name when they spent more money on Namepros ads than on actual product development

So if we call for the rule and an employee votes, we can notify mods and they'll remove the vote manually, right?

Just trying to turn joke polls like you call them, into legit awards.
And for that we need a legit presenter.
Bowtie acclaimed presenter.
@Bob Hawkes
Clap clap clap.
Im talking for next years polls.

People disagree with you.
People disagree with @equity78 .
No one disagrees with him.
Everyone likes him.

More charisma, therefore more recognition.
My personal opinion has nothing to do with it.
It's for the sake of namepros.

But no, Im not good at handling polls.

I don't know what anyone is disagreeing with me on because I have stated nothing that has to or not has to be. To be honest I really don't care.

There really are just a few registrars that get into this as @bmugford once said when GoDaddy won they were not putting out a press release.

This is a domain forum, where many of the biggest participants in the industry either don't participate or hate the place.

It's one of a few echo chambers in the business known as domaining.

There are several new private forums, social media and personal email groups.

The Namepros favorite registrar should be used by registrars who care what their customers think.

But we have also seen some things they are not going to budge on. They have all been official because there was only one whether JB started it or I started it or if Eric Lyons or @Bob Hawkes starts it, (Bob you should tell them what your presenter fees start at, I tried to hire Bob for a show but even in Canadian dollars it was off the chart. hahahah I am kidding just having fun with people trying to get Bob to do more work). It's all good, because like @biggie said it really doesn't matter at all. Stay cool breeze.

Efty is a big one that should be on the list as far as landing pages.

Did you want to include parking company landing pages, you have to decide that

Landers and marketplaces are 2 different things to me.

If it moves to December just wait until then in 2021 to not confuse the issue......not a big deal to wait a few extra months

I still think we should have another one.
Would be extra interesting to see where sav and dynadot now stand compared to others.

Lots of things have changed. Godaddy has increased discount domain club price. Epik has been having some turmoils, people seem loyal to them.

Also last one had uni and godaddy merged as one. They should have definitly been seperate.

Would be very interesting to see, and ideally not in one year because its already been 9months, which is almost a year.

Best registrar polls? What for? Last time it was an unfair show, as staff members were allowed to participate. (nothing personal). Sorry, but when a staff member of a particular registrar participates and votes for his employer in the poll, but his recent personal handregs voluntary reported in <showcase your "trending subject" domains> thread are with a competing registrar - it is a joke.

At least, there should be an option for any REGISTRAR to withdraw themseleves from such a poll. As it would be natural for any registrar not to participate in an unfair competition, However, such option is technically impossible, so...

There you answered my question.
I was wondering how I got to know about them since I have no domains at namesilo and I never use them.
Thank you.

That being said I still dont know the name. Following @Gube advice I visited namesilo's homepage, cant find it. Pulled basic menu, cant find it.
Namepros ads, Im seeing dynadot.
Still a mystery.
Yes, they don't even show it on their own homepage. But it's at the top of many nP pages (if you don't have an adblocker)
That ad placement must be costy as griff mentionned it

Maybe the colors don't make it stand out enough, possible

Great idea. Its like deciding whats the nicest car you drove this year in march.
Epik employee thing never bothered me.
Were all human and get 1 vote
One vote, cant be changed.
View after you vote.
Vote, post reason, hopefully no fraud accusations like the usa election if a new king is crowned.

I think end of year has merits for reasons you give, and some kind of smaller update poll in between, perhaps. One way to make sure that the mid year one does not detract from importance of the annual one is to instead of a favourite promote it as who has improved or gotten worse lately (two polls) and the discussion would be feedback for the registrars about their recent changes.

One difficulty is deciding which registrars to include, as the number of poll choices is less than number of registrars used by community. We should start perhaps with the top 10 from last year's vote, and then ask members to suggest others from which 10 would be chosen (if indeed 20 is limit, I don't know).

Will await for @equity78 thoughts, as he has spearheaded last couple of polls.

Thanks for the ideas and initiative @Windoms.

Bob

I like end of year as well. The first one I started was only done in March because it was a question people kept asking, so I figured let's do it and see, didn't want to wait another 9 months. But a Dec 15 (or now) - Jan 15 sounds good. Public vote for transparency. No employee voting, no advertising in the thread by registrars. So we don't run into the same problems as the last one. Also, up to 3 votes like the original one. There are a few registrars I like pretty evenly, so hard to pick just one.

Bob

I think that end of the year works Bob. I think the number of registrars might be just to appease some or feel not left out. But we can add just about everyone will make it a longer poll.

When it comes to domain investors, year in and year out, there is

NameSilo
GoDaddy
Epik
Dynadot
NameCheap
Porkbun
Name.com
Uniregistry but as a GoDaddy owned entity do we want them listed separately?

DAN could disrupt that with their new registrar. But for the three people who say what about ClouldFlare or Google? It's not a meaningful number that affects the vote.

There are plenty of others you can list so people don't feel left out but they are not going to get many votes.

The multiple vote or one vote for what is the really only prestigious award that comes out of this community can be voted on in Namepros Info and suggestions, we can vote that the rest of this year, I will put up a poll and it will ask for Namepros Registrar of the year do you like one selection or up to 3 selections. I think @Windoms makes a good point, someone might include a second one and they get a lot of second place votes that count as first place in the poll. But we will leave that up to everyone to decide.

The flipside, some don't like this poll and look to demean it or think it's worthless. In the grand scheme of things it's not that big, but for a little industry like this winners (outside of GoDaddy) have noted it, I have been on stock forums that discussed the year NameSilo won for example.

If there is going to be a lot of negativity I say skip it.

I have no idea, I simply missed you. You were on my list earlier, don't know how that happened.
I've notified mods already, will see if it can be done along a couple other tweaks.

Ok Thank you.
Namepros voting certainly has some impacts on the domainer's selecting a market place , just missing us out will certainly hurt us a bit.

We are going to be here long term and has been operational for past 16+ months, Although it hurts, its ok for missing us for a year if its too difficult to tweak . We have 150k+ inventory at moment and hoping to reach 1 million names in couple of months time.

Certainly we are looking forward to bring the positive impact on the industry and make the platform as domainer friendly market place.

Thanks again for your initiative , certainly a good initiative. :)

forgot the name
Was not waiting for that hahaha "forgot the name", It's on the homepage at the top :xf.grin:
We are probably not hearing about it enough though, the site is not very user friendly

But for the "$1 .com 0% com" bribes, not sure that will happen sadly. When registrars compete against each another, the users usually wins but now it just feels like they are all on a strike. Not many promo deals on .com from the usual players on nP

Fact. Should be Registrar of the Year, held at the end of the year.

@Bob Hawkes is also welcome to start polls. I tagged @equity78 because his voice weighs.
But so does Bob's, everyone agrees with Bob.
You are welcome to start the best lander thread.
Starting december 15th. Ending december 31st.
We have time to elaborate the full list of contenders.

End of the year makes sense.

Epik all day everyday.

I prefer registrars that can take PayPal and are in the Afternic fast transfer network. ;)

Why you always pull up gloomy and bitter?
Hi
not gloomy or bitter about it at all
it's true from my perspective and others as well

We're just trying to improve things here lol.
Hi

a pole, won't improve things here, unless those who swing on it, can make the changes or improvements necessary.
and the more you talk about structure of it, the more biases you may discover within.

who is chosen as best registrar, depends on those who vote
and where those who voted keep, or register their names, is only relevant if i want to buy one.

and such information is readily available, when you know the domain.

Are you alright?

Hi

i'm as cool
as kool in the gang
but please.. don't let what i say
stop you, from doing your thang

:)

puff, puff....

imo....

2020 Registrar is already won, and 2021 will not be decided now.

You decided 2020 in March? Like I said, gets it back on schedule.

Or should edit the title and make it a true 2020 poll.

I Just noticed it, so this "about polls" thread is naturally "expiring".
Imho, basically, @JB Lions just opted-in to receive a lot of NP alerts how somebody responded in a thread :)
Hope there should be no competition between valuable members @equity78 and @JB Lions for a "privilege" to receive these forum notifications! Lets have 1 poll, not 2 polls like last time!

Tony I don't care who starts a poll what I am saying is we have a 2019 winner it's documented, in places outside of Namepros outside of domaining actually, Same for 2020.

I read @Windoms and it seemed people wanted December 2021 to be the 2021 poll.

Now @Corey brought up quarterly.

This is a domain forum, where many of the biggest participants in the industry either don't participate or hate the place.

Hi Ray

the quote above, speaks to the "weight and credibility" of the poll..... outside of this "one echo chamber" in domaining, that you to speak to, in quote below:

It's one of a few echo chambers in the business known as domaining.
Hi
also, quote above speaks to a mentality of some, who think NP is "the voice" of the industry,
meanwhile some of the biggest participants in the industry, that you speak about in initial quote, may only hear the noise.

therefore, the quote below, may speak to how those above and outside this chamber, may feel about results of such.
like @biggie said it really doesn't matter at all.

now, if you don't care what other echo chambers feel about what comes out of this echo chamber, then it doesn't matter at all.... does it?

:)

puff, puff...

imo....

Which one is missing
Dynadot and Namesilo do both provide landers for domains listed on their marketplaces.
The last but not the least -
"My Own Lander" ;) /which may or may not send visitors to any of the marketplace, via buy now button or otherwise/
