Easy answer

The sale was for Zhuanxue.com ("transfer" in Chinese pinyin) not Zhaunxue.com.

Someone made a typographical error along the english speaking news chain and messed up the spelling. Since many sites just copy the news from one to the other, the incorrect spelling spread.

Here is the source with the correct spelling.

lol. You are welcome, I just saved a bunch of people some $$
(now Follow me on Twitter as a thank you @theDomainVP).

However...

I've seen domains that have been 'bought' for $100k+ and dropped before...

I cant get into specifics, but one was acquired at auction for $x,xxx by a fellow domainer, and then post auction (7 day period) the buyer/owner renewed on the final day. (Domainer refunded)

Why did this domain sold for $190,098? I can hardly pronounce it.

I was looking Godarddy expiring auctions and found a strange domain - zhaunxue.com.
It was sold last year for $190,098 (http://www.domainnews.com/zhaunxue-com-wins-weekly-sales-list-at-190-098/) and is not renewed.
Now it is listed at Godaddy expiring auctions for $12 and has no bids and a few views.
I find this very strange.
Do you have some explanation?

Sorry to bust it for you, but a lot of dnj sales records are shrill sales. Yes, questionable transactions can be proven, but they are not real sales. It is set up to drive prices for some not so valuable names.

Does no one read past the first post? This indeed was a valid sale, however the OP spelled the domain wrong, as did many other reporting outlets.

Also, just in case you didn't know, and I'm just being helpful not being the grammar police - the term is 'shill'

I am not questioning the validity of this particular sale. In fact most sales are legally valid. However, there is a lot of sales which are questionable in their intent from a legitimate buyer standpoint.

I wish I'd stopped reading after your first post. I appreciate your effort !

I did mean the loudness of it. It's what it does. Scream to the world how big a so so name sold for. It's easy to say stuff; but I'd like to know what's the most you ever paid for a domain name?
