@DomainVP thanks for the translations, I noticed there were some names that had more than one 5L.com meaning the same thing, some had like 5 different combos.

Now I had a contact form message from a guy who wanted to pitch me an idea for a story, and he said he lives in Seattle now but was born and spent his first 21 years in China, the story was Western domainers are idiots for using Google pinyin translations, he said him and all his Chinese buddies were at a bar laughing at the craziness.

I messaged back how accurate is Google Pinyin ? He said not at all. So I have to say I am completely confused here.

I would not say to bet everything on what the Google translator says. But I have seen forum members from China take 5 L's and give translations - it's here somewhere I just can't recall the member or the post.

To hedge the accuracy (or lack thereof) of the translator, I'm sticking to at least 1 pair of consonants and minimum vowels (if any) - that way if it's so far off that it's ludicrous I would still have a chip with 1 consecutive consonant.

But the main reason I give the translator consideration is because of who is registering within that segment - the Chinese.

I took a segment of 1000* chips that were available as of Friday translated into 1 word translations. Then checked their availability... as of right now 656* of those domains are registered.
*(subtract -60 domains from each list, some were registered previously and must have not been on the zone for whatever reason)

I have also been looking at 5L's with vowels and their translations - and for every 5 or 10 I like, there is 1 or 2 that have been registered by a Chinese buyer. That's what makes me give more credence to the translator... not that its 100% infallible, but that Chinese buyers are buying strong translations too.

*I haven't had time to go through all of the vowels yet, I started to and then got busy. I will post some Chinese registered 5L's with vowels with strong translations in the future as I see them.

Even if the translator is so far off that your friend is laughing at it, there may be Chinese buyers/sellers that will use the translation as a selling point, or some kind of extra criteria to make the 5L chip more rare and exclusive.

When you are talking about 11mil permutations you have to narrow the field down to more criteria than just non-aeiouv and beginning with cities.

After all, does non aeiouv really matter in the end? Of course not... It's just part of the narrative that can easilyt identify 'value' where financial haven is flocking to.

Thanks for the info and all the work you did, I am just trying to make sense of everything, the person who emailed is not a friend. If he was a friend I could get all the info I needed.

I have looked at some names containing one vowel that did translate well so you are on right path there.

If I were chinese I'd create a website and offer a translation/domain referral service - Offer packages to translate X amount of domains for $xx or whatever.

Until last week, I'd never missed handregging a domain by 45 seconds to someone in Beijing! At midnight! That's crazy!

I've been watching the drops going on three - four weeks now - mainly looking for premium 5L palindromes and triple repeaters. I had my pick for about a week. Then the Chinese were buying them and now all drop catchers.

I've done a ton of research on 5L, especially with Pinyin and Chinese provincials and cities. City and provincial abbreviations are flying. Good Pinyin acronyms like xyk (credit card), jcc (taxi), (ddd) take a taxi and czc (rental car) are gone.

Fact is the Chinese guy and his friends at the bar (in the post above) may be laughing about these purchases, even I laugh about it, these names are going fast. And, for every name that is bought in the US, ten are purchased in China.

Another two cents - vowels are not bad and v is a substitute for ü (as well as virtual, video, etc) . These aren't as bad as everyone keeps going on about.

yes.. that being said, definitley not all 5L will have value.. therefore a buyout of 5l.com is still not good idea. imo

I am sure it'll happen. again, just cause pattern 5l buyout will happen does not automatially make thignsa valuable.. epsecially longterms.

but my point is that a buyout of ALL 5l will eventually happen too. and not all 5l are good.
therefore there should never be a buyout of all 5l to begin with.
