Do you think it would be a good idea to start a site that does professional appraisals for 5 dollars? Some names are available but I want something that sounds good and appraisal is a long name so that's kinda hard.

I don't know about this one. What would make your site so professional and unique?

How would someone be assured that they were getting a qualified appraisal? What makes it so different than what's offered at domain name forums?

Because I wouldn't just be like high xx to low xxx... next. I would tell them why Ithink that and do lots of research. I would also give them possible site ideas if it doesnt have a site already. ive got a few ideas of my own

I too think it's a good idea, assuming that you have a good understanding of domain values.

Good luck!

Good idea- the only problem I can see is can you make a viable business charging only $5?

My thoughts exactly :) If your gonna put that much time into it, you'll soon loose interest at charging $5. Id go $49, and provide a little report in pdf form. Then it could be worthwhile too you and maintain your interest.

I think a lot of domainers are VERY sceptical of appraisal services (i certainly am). They'll need a fair bit of convincing..then again any appraisal is pretty subjective..its all about finding a buyer.

If you can provide some examples of positive feedback from your initial customers, that will help convince people.

Do a promotion, first 10 people get a free report and have to write a review about the site in return. That'll build trust and possibly returning customers.

You will need some excellent tesimonials from high quality domains.

Getting a tesimonial from an appraisal for www.iliketoshowmeyoursignature.com will not impress people. If someone is going to spend money on an appraisal they will need to see you've appraised top notch domains like www.books.com or something popular.

I would not charge $49, because that would be a total waste to people who want domains appraised in the xx range. Why spend $50, to find out your domain is worth $50.

You could offer different levels of appraisal for different prices. If someone comes in with a premier llll.com then they could buy a higher end package to get a more analyzed appraisal.

I would go with this idea, assuming you are very knowledable in the subject.

So like n00b appraisal
cool appraisal
and uber appraisal

AS someone said, allot a time spam to spend on each Ie, 5 mins for n00b 1 hour for uber maybe.

Show some tesimonials maybe a section
DOMAIN NAME | APPRAISED FOR | SOLD FOR

Something along those lines?

Now this isn't meant to be rude. But what exactly qualifies you to do professional appraisals? Now if it was someone like Rick Schwartz or Sedo, then I would get one done for $5 like a shot, but if it's someone I don't know, how do I know that they are qualified to do the appraisal? It could just be another SwiftAppraisal?

I for one think that appraisals are a bit of a scam, the value of your domain varies massively on who wants to buy it thus rendering an appraisal totally useless unless the appraiser knows a potential end user and how much they are willing to pay.

Well everyone is entitled to their opinion but just because you've never heard of them doesn't mean they don't exist or have no talent.

I think that you should do a promotion similar to what betrollwin.com suggested. Then, you'll have feedback on how accurate your appraisals are and you can go from there.

Alright well I registered AppraisalPal.com. Good?

I know I'm not the best domainer in the world. But I will work as hard as I can to appraise every domain I get. I would look at it from the end users point of view. When I was selling JetRates.com, if I came to me I would think about it as if I'm a company like WestJet. I would tell them that that is in extreme situations obviously but the thing that would make me different from all those other sites is that it won't be so damn cold and technical. It will be completely unique and won't be all junk. It will be professional but it will answer any question they have. And if they have any more questions about their domain I will answer them in full for free.

I have a dream. One day the hippos will fly and the birds will swim! OHHH YES THIS DAY WILL COME UPON US SOON ENOUGH! When this day comes.... oh boy that'll be the day.
