Hello Matt and all,
I appreciate the thread and thoughts.
I can assure you that, though equity78 and I enjoy 3 character domains (and my specific joy is 3-letter domains), we try to go out of our way to be unbiased on 3character.com.
I'll also mention that Ray and I get a lot of feedback on the price guide...and from both angles. Some say it's too low and some that the prices are too high. The price guide's numbers reflect the minimum prices being paid for various types of 3 letter domains as observed from recent sales data and market trends. I can assure you that most of the commentary we receive is that the prices listed are too low.
Further, Equity78 and I operate 3character.com as a fun site about our hobby that is hopefully informative to its visitors and accurate to the trends and marketplace.
Interestingly, I doubt either of us would sell domains from our own private collections for anything close to the price guide's minimum prices, but they do reflect
minimum market prices (and that's whether we like the numbers or not, as our goal is to be accurate to the current marketplace).
In many ways we try to build on Duke's
www.DNJournal.com site as our model, as his site is exceptional in detailing the growth in the broad domain marketplace. In likewise fashion, we cover the niche in 3 character domains. 3-character domains of all types have indeed grown in measurable value significantly over the last few years, and thus why recent reports on 3character.com reflect this trend. Thus our goal is not to influence pricing, but rather to report on them (be it increases in prices or decreases).
Finally, we always welcome commentary and hope the site invokes interest of all kinds (positive or negative) in 3 character domains. We'd welcome parallel sites about 3 character domains...the more the merrier. We're all learning here and the education never stops...and neither does the fun!
Thanks again for all of your commentaries!
Thank you,
zesty
