They updated and I noticed he lowered the price of the 3 character .net line. Unreal. Also he didn't change the LLL.net's either. Both imho have gone up in value. I see CCC.net's sell here in auction to resellers for $10-$20 on a consistent basis.

Whoever owns that site may not be a participating Namepros member.

If he would have kept the same I would have complained but OMG he LOWERED them. LLN.net and NNL.net were $13 and I think a couple were $10 and 2 were reg fee. Now 4 are reg fee and 2 are only $10.

Now I am going by auctions I have seen here and other forums but most LLN.net's seem to be reaching $15-$20 pretty easy.

LLN.net, NLL.net, NNL.net, LNN.net are all 10-20$ at TDNAM + 7$ regfee for Discount domain club members. So I would agree at 17$ minimum price.

Another thing - LLL.com when minimum observed price cannot reflect real market prices because there are not enough sales to rely on. If in December there were several LLL.com sales and the worst one - let's say it was imaginary medium quality OJN(dot)com - was sold for 6400$ that doesn't reflect the minimum wholesale prices for the worst of them because this doesn't automatically make real worst ones (QZJ, ZXK, QGJ etc) worth the same 6400$. Of course scarecity of LLL.coms make them expensive but it seems that 3Character price guide can influence the market.

It can't influence the market.

Prices for lll.com's vary's. There are still avenues to acquire them for 6-9k. Some lll.com's fetch mid xxx - mid xxxx.

To place the only extension outside dotcom where 3 character combinations are sold out at reg fee is just laughable. If people post some that dropped they are grabbed in under 5 minutes. We shall see if they influence the market but if I can buy LLN.net's for $10 a pop I will be spending another $1k beyond what I already have on them.

I think you are taking Zesty's page way too seriously. :)

I think he does a great job trying to keep up with Market prices. Its not easy to evaluate all sales comps and put a number on where a trend is going. Believe me, I tried. I tried to release a monthly report on the state of domain prices, and frankly its exceptionally difficult. I managed to release a LLL.com report which I posted on NamePros.

The truth is, this one personas views as to how the market looks. Take it or leave it, but if your not happy - use another source or post your own valuations.

Being a large holder of all 3 character names I am tempted to create a new one where the written prices actually represent sales rather than the written prices actually changing sales. The main problem with 3character.com is that the majority of domainers treat it as a gospel when it is actually very wrong in many areas.

Largely true, however, would you even put XUZA.com at $1.5k? Sure it may be entitled to labelling itself as a CVCV.com, however, the reason these domains are more valuable than other LLLL.coms is simply that they are far more brandable; such a domain definitely isn't!

It can, and does. Zesty is a member here and I know ffrom how often that price guide gets mentioned it definitely influences the reseller market...

I too think zesty does a great job to give a guide price to something where clearly there is no 'actual' baseline. It is intended as a guide price, for the minimum wholesale value, as stated on the site. This means obviously there are exceptions, and it is generally only true for the worse combinations, but of course if you dig long enough you'll get one cheaper, and better ones will always cost more and be evaluated by different criteria.

:)

If anyone is seriously interested in forming a similar site however... I just may know somebody interested...

I don't know why people let it bother them so much really. If I'm in the mood to sell something - I'll do it at whatever price I want or see fit .... And for the most part - I ignore anyone quoting Price Guides or Appraisals to me on "MY" domains.

If I get bored with something - I may sell it cheap, If not I generally will stand my ground on the prices I have in mind.

As Justin said - It isn't easy to please everyones views or keep a handle on the recent market sales. And if you folks want to create yet another site like this - I'm sure it'll receive complaints as well ... It's the Nature of the Beast.

MoFo.com wouldn't be at the $1.5K range either. Nor would DoSo.com etc. I think as an average, a price guide needs to be broken down, just like a car model.

CVCV.com Starting with X & Q (not followed by a U for Q) are $150
CVCV.com Starting with S,T,H,B,C,P,L,D,R,G,N,J & M & Combo Vowels of O,O or,E,E or I,I are $15,000
CVCV.com Starting with V & W & Combo Vowels of O,O or,E,E or I,I are $12,000

etc... everything needs to be broken down... By letter and combo.

True - sorry, just being pedantic! Unlike LLL.coms where even the worst combos can justifiably have a minimum value, this is not possible with LLLL.coms.

I am reminded of my days as a biologist. Taxonomy is the process of identifying and naming species. The folks doing that kind of work could be split into two philosophical groups "Lumpers" and "Splitters" :)

I think the same thing is going on here :)
