Can anyone help me out with transfering a domain from 1and1 to GoDaddy. My account is at GoDaddy but the person im buying the domain off has it registered at 1and1 and they are not sure how or if it can be done.

Many Thanks

Rob :)

(Any quick replies appreciated)

Tell them to send a transfer request from 1and1 for the domain name.

You will then recieve a code(or codes) in the email address that it on account for that domain that the other person is required to enter to acknowledge that you have accepted the transfer request.

Then it should get transferred across within the week I expect

you should not expect a charge for transferring a name out of 1+1.

Best of luck dealing with 1and1. There are many horror stories about them...

I got a reply from GoDaddy saying the domain couldnt be transfered because the domain was registered only a few days ago and it cant be transfered until after 60 days from the reg date. Is this right?

it is free to get a 1and1 account, sign up there have him transfer to your 1and1 account, and start paying 5.99 yearly instead of the 10 bucks yearly that godaddy charges.

Yes that's correct.

I'm not quite sure why that rule was created, but there must be some reason.

Anyone shead some light on that?

BAD idea :D. 1and1 are THE WORST registrar :imho: . Just read the reviews here at NamePros. NEVER register a domain at 1and1... ever... GoDaddy is tops :tu: , I don't like the creator (forgoten his name), but the services are great, and with promo codes and loopholes you can regularly get your domains for less than $6.

All the best,
Rhett.

since you cannot transfer the name out of 1+1 for the 60 day period the only way you can have the name pushed to you now is to open a 1+1 account yourself. there will probably be a charge for internal transfers and you will get sucked into the 1+1 nightmare. either wait the 60 days or cancel the purchase. either way I would not pay a cent until AFTER the name has been transferred to you at another registrar. 1+1 total crap.

If you are not already with 1and1 - DON'T get started with them.

If you are with 1and1 - work towards getting yourself out. I'm planning my exit strategy 9 months in advance. :'(

BTW - does anyone know if I want to transfer say 3 .us domains, do I need 3 authorization codes or just 1?

Just learned that each domain has an authorization code. And according to 1and1 FAQ it is easy to find on your account control panel - no need to call support!

I'm going to try transferring a .us domain as a trial run. If anyone's interested I'll post if it went smoothly.

I'd be interested seeing any 1and1.com service experiments posted on the 1and1.com hater thread - good or bad.

My recommendation is never use 1and1.com for hosting or domains. Just learn from other's mistakes on this board and abroad.

Q: if someone said, ew this tastes like elephant balls, try it! Would you? No, I hope. So why would you use 1and1.com?

Believe me I wish I would have read the 1and1 review thread before getting started. But I didn't so I now need to get myself out of 1and1 with as little hassle as possible.

But I have to say I haven't had as bad an experience as others. I've transferred a few .com and .net domains with no problems. I'll give a .us a try and see if it goes smoothly (crosses fingers).
