America was like this in the early 19th century after the industrial revolution but we didn't have plastic yet.

China may masquerade as Communist, but it is actually a highly capitalized Authoritarian government. Not all Communists are atheist either and atheism is not a blanket excuse for wanton destruction of the environment. Most atheists are actually Humanists. The tenants for Humanism:

Justice: Treat people fairly: treat equals equally, unequals unequally.

What will burning do but create more air pollution? They're already running short of fuel for funeral pyres due to Covid. It's a disaster. Many who have means are spending their family fortune to escape and exporting Covid to places like Nepal.

India's population in 2019 = 1.366 billion
China's population in 2019 = 1.398 billion

Since India's population has been growing at a faster pace than China's for a bloody long time, I would imagine that by about 2023/24, India will overtake their neighbors and become "numero uno"

I have been there and took part in a conference on this issue. The first problem is lack of education. While educated Indians can lead the world, there are vast numbers of people who are primitive in their thinking. If you put a garbage bin right next to them, they will still just throw their trash in the street. That's if nobody steels the trash bin to sell as scrap metal.

Then, where people are aware they need to clean up, there is no place to put it. There are no garbage trucks that come by and ship your waste plastic off to some corrupt developing country. That's a luxury of developed countries.

Burning all that plastic just makes it even more toxic.

They government needs money and a well thought out plan, and commitment. And we know how that goes...
