My sales in the cargo business increased 3-fold after using the cargo.xyz website

Happy that you had a great success with it. You needed it more than me! ;)

Here separate thread:

XYZ just joined, and first post is a slap to a competitor.

https://www.namepros.com/threads/wh...k-and-rob-monster.1128748/page-9#post-7160486

(9) dislikes. No thanks or likes. Lol.

Kinda unusual really for a first time poster. No introduction, no “hows it going”, just a pathetic swipe. Talk about unprofessional. Wonky. Clumsy. Stupid. They trashed the extension long ago by their pricing, so at one time was really listed as a bad extension by Spamhaus. I can only assume that they are no longer in top 10 because of all the phishing and spam domains are dropped.

The redirect masquerades as helping victims, when it is intended to
A. Bash the Topic person in the thread
B. To shamelessly self promote their failed extension.

XYZ has Ton’s of dropped names that nobody wants.

XYZ Clawback complaints:

XYZ tried giving away them at .88 cents.

XYZ Called out about comparing themselves to Bitcoin by online Domain before:

@Tom K
“I'm not saying they're not stupid. But that is a separate issue and on a completely different level. Let's not conflate the two. Open a separate thread for that.”

There is absolutely no one on here that can say there is NOTHING of any value in my portfolio. Yes there is mostly rubbish but a few with value. And that's coming from some pro's by DM.

My advice is that you need to trust yourself if you think .xyz will flourish one day, I also think that's a good sign that if so many people comment or criticize it, that's an important factor if something will be going to be successful, like bitcoin so many people talk s**t about it but the market just don't care, like celebrity if nobody talks about him or her that means his or her reputation is like nothing, if you ever try to give up then probably you gonna regret someday. what I see is the founder of .xyz the Daniel Negari is going the right direction that he's advertising .xyz domain to young people, obviously, the good potential is there.

yeah, that's because the money doesn't come so easily, you need to consider that .com was begun in about 1985 until 2000-2009 the value came to emerge, the bear market always long and painful.

your right, but if someone sees the .com and likes the domain name so much for their website, you wouldn't think that it would take so long to choose a cheaper version. You know. :)

I think for now what you are saying is right, the future of .xyz depends on how Daniel Negari promotes it, the best scenario is that the marketing is working then pushed young people to generate the same consciousness thinking that .xyz is bold and cooler than .com (because mostly they can't afford an appropriate .com domain name so trigger them to start a revolution to pull down the .com), and if that happens, your .xyz domain will become scarcity and valuable. if .xyz don't have that chance I don't know what Gtlds. has the ability to do that.

Otherwise, I think the .eth domain has a big potential too based on ETH public blockchain, but that's really high threshold to play with, consider to have them I prefer to buy a little ETH coin and put there for like 10 years then see what happen. but the good thing is the .xyz domain also could link to ETH's DNS server or making a smart contract. I am talking about long term investment.

I agree that promotion by registry, and in particular showing that real businesses are using it in significant ways, is critical to how successful .xyz is going forward.

On the positive side
  • while still tiny compared to legacy, .xyz is doing better than almost all other new gTLDs real use wise
  • having Alphabet on an .xyz is a big plus
  • they have managed to keep abuse really respectable for a long time (see Spamhaus). This is quite the achievement considering that they have continued deep discounting
  • the renewal cost is not unreasonable
  • due to registration numbers, it has more recognition than many of the new gTLDs
  • the fact that it is not an English word helps it be a more universal TLD
On the negative side
  • after years 1-2 not many high value resales
  • a number of good words are premium reserved
  • even compared to registration base, not an impressive number of aftermarket sales in recent years an little indication of strong trend
  • some new extension proponents dislike that the TLD is not a word
How I see it (my opinion)
  • we are unrealistic to expect a sudden increase in sales rate or prices
  • I think we may see a gradual pickup of sales especially in $$$ range
  • correct pricing and reaching the right markets are essential here - I suspect this will be more successful outside the US
  • at low acquisition prices the probabilities may make sense if you can find good words that the registry missed as premium and that have dropped
Bob

Disclosure: I personally have a handful of .xyz, but it is not more than 2% of my entire portfolio. I have one that I may develop. I continue to look at opportunities, and now and then pick up one. I have never sold an .xyz.

I agree Bob, .xyz is almost a discount .com or .org with its universal usage.

Will .xyz flourish in 2019? Secondary market sales data (source: namebio):

2019 YTD44k
It's never too late but it may be time for Miracle-Gro.

I just found that from the past to last week the most of .xyz domain registrants came from China, and the US had always been in third place, but this week things are different the US replaced them as number one. (source: namestat)
The .net, .org, .info are a little bit decreasing progressively day by day, the .com remains stable, on the contrary, the .xyz is increasing gradually if the stats are accurate that's good news to .xyz. (source: dnpedia)
Forget about the .top there is hardly any signed zone at all.

Ok, I confess, I have a 3 worder - I Love You .xyz
I just was reading the early parts of this thread and came across this post from @hawkeye and noticed on NameBio that 3 word xyz sold this year for $2995! If you were the seller, congratulations!

But overall, as the stats @ecalc posted indicates, 2019 so far has been dismal for .xyz on reported sales (although the base for this extension in regions less represented, probably, in NameBio).
