discuss What I learned in the last week about domainers

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
What a week. As many of you know I had a huge sale this month to a celebrity. I did an article with @Domain Shane The entire article was a "how to" on how I made a huge sale and how you can do the same.
Here is what I learned.
  • Domainers are jealous petty people.
  • Keyboard tough people like to DM me and say things they would never say to my face
  • Thank God there are some really cool people that come to my defense!
  • People from countries outside of the US have thrown some insults at me that I don't understand.
  • My fellow domainers are literally upset that I sold a domain for a lot of money and I don't know why - isn't that the goal for all of us?
  • I have been ridiculed for losing my job like I deserve it because I sold the name for so much? I don't see the connection
  • My job as an IT manager was garbage and that's all I could get with my low IQ? (I have a degree and was summa cum laude - look it up if you don't know)
  • I shouldn't talk about my sales
  • I left money on the table
  • I didn't get enough money
  • I ripped off the buyer
  • I rip people off by offering low prices for names I want to buy. Um - yes. Who pays full retail for anything they want to resell? I am not an end user. I don't force anyone to sell me anything. If you don't like the price we shake hands and walk away.
  • I had a broker who couldn't get an offer on two domains I hired him to sell, one of them hatred.com, attempting to insult me with a goose and duck reference? He also tried to impress me with his sales this year (none of them mine)
So again, this post will fill with haters and arguments. I am asking that you please refrain from saying anything negative. None of you know me personally and I have never ever stolen anything from any of you.
I am sad for this community, you have no idea what kind of scum is lurking here.
Instead of insulting me for whatever reason you deem necessary - go out and sell some names to end users. Its that simple, stop using me as way to escape the reality of your poor or low sales. Start sending emails and cold calling, that's what I do and it works.
I was trying to help you - all of you! Its that simple, and you turned it into a circus of hell. Go back and read the article and try to replicate.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Yeah, yeah, yeah... it was a sales pitch! So he lied. So what else is new? Many people resort to this. I never believe these kinds of claims, anyway! Same as "students" asking to sell them a domain for a "school project".
My take away here is this: he was desperate to sell here for $9,500, but no takers. So he got to work and a couple of weeks later sold to an end-user for $150,000. Damn inspiring! (y)

Also can't say I'm a huge fan of breaking the gentlemens agreement you mentioned of not releasing the sale details until the buyer launched his website.

To my knowledge, the domain has been redirected to Milo's new book since the release of the sale.

I wasn't paying much attention who this Milo guy was. Now reading Grilled post I now remember who this guy is.

What one "has in the name" and what one paid only for the domain, can be different.
My point exactly. Just wondering what the other 5.5k could be though in that short time period.

HeHe.... if you follow that ling through there is a quote in the review section for the book

Majority of America hate Milo. But that doesn't mean he doesn't have his freedom of speech. It's like what J.K. Rowling said regarding our President, "His freedom to speak protects my freedom to call him a bigot."

fuuunny but true !!!!

:) How did you know they were insulting you if you didn't understand!

Back to the topic. I saw the sale though I don't remember reading any hateful or spiteful comments. Also remember Kevin of DI calling this sale a rip-off and some domainers actually called him out on that and came to your defense.

So perhaps, this post is just an over-generalisation and you focused only on the negative comments and used them to paint the whole community with same brush. Which is unfair for the many well-meaning and good-hearted people here.
When i see a domainer make a big sale, I am usually inspired and try to study their names and strategy to see if I can apply it to my own portfolio and clinch that huge sale. What comes to my mind is a "oh, what a lucky a lucky b^%%*d", how can I apply that! I just don't understand how someone can be jealous of another random anonymous person on the internet. It would be too irrational.

Great. It wasn't the case yesterday I don't think.

I checked my browser history. As of 5:44 AM EST (6/26), the domain redirected to Milos book sale on Amazon.

The story was released on NamePros by @Addison at 3:49 AM (6/26).

Selling a domain for $150,000 and getting interviewed about it will do that every time! :xf.wink:

Maybe it's not jealousy but more related to the approach you documented and the final result:

If I put it at auction a hate group like the KKK or Stormfront may end up with the name, wouldn’t you rather own it. Its perfect for your brand
Maybe people feel that it wasn't good karma to basically respond to a group of Civil Rights lawyers that they should pay through the nose or you could end up making money by selling it to a hate group that they are fighting against. And then to add insult to injury -- end up fulfilling that threat directly by selling it to a piece of shit human hate-mongerer.

Well done! Bravo!

refrain from saying anything negative

But but but but.... you just sold a name to a professional provocateur ...

Congratulations on your sale.

What I learned this week
  • Don't believe the amount sellers say they have invested in a domain unless you can verify it.
  • Outbound PAYS BIG

And its absolute pure genius !!

He said he is getting into domaining full time and he did so with a huge sale.
To top it all off he is setting the forum on fire.

You cannot pay for all that free advertising.

Like it or not... @uglydork is showing everyone how it's done.

Mark my words.... he is one to watch, and I am watching. (y)

I'm very thankful for @uglydork sharing the details of the sale. (sincerely)

BUT --- I don't think whats being uncovered is how it's done. Maybe I'm wrong, but if you tell your buyer you put $X into a domain, when really you put $Y (Y = less) Can the seller legally break the sales agreement if its uncovered the buyer purchased the domain under falsified information from the seller?

When you have a certain level of success, this is part of the experience often. Kind of ironic given the nature of the domain name. Domainers are generally some of the biggest morons on planet earth too so I guess it's inevitable. This is qualified by the sheer amount of junk registered. In God's eyes we are all equal. But some domain investors are weak, others are strong. Walk around with a superiority complex when haters come you way. Congrats on your sale.

Show attachment 62392 Congrats on your sale.

I did have one question.

In your NamePros sale post, you listed Hatred.com for sale at 9.5k and stated that was the amount you "have in the name", and essentially wouldn't be making a dime on the sale price.

I then read that you picked up the name for 4K?... just curious to know what the other 5.5k expense was?
Holding costs and my cost to market
Time = Money

I didn't break any agreement - My God - let me answer questions before you start piling on - that is a bit unfair.
I bought the name on a credit card and spent a lot of time marketing, I figured all of that doubled my cost.
Milo had the name redirecting to his Amazon book sale for a while, not sure what happened.
If you must know, I still talk to Milos team.
Please let me answer questions before you start making something out of nothing. I do need to sleep! I go to bed at 9PM and get up at 4:30am if everyone needs to know my schedule too :)

Some people like to play detective and discredit like the world is lying. I have no reason to lie - $150,000 reasons
