discuss What I learned in the last week about domainers

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
What a week. As many of you know I had a huge sale this month to a celebrity. I did an article with @Domain Shane The entire article was a "how to" on how I made a huge sale and how you can do the same.
Here is what I learned.
  • Domainers are jealous petty people.
  • Keyboard tough people like to DM me and say things they would never say to my face
  • Thank God there are some really cool people that come to my defense!
  • People from countries outside of the US have thrown some insults at me that I don't understand.
  • My fellow domainers are literally upset that I sold a domain for a lot of money and I don't know why - isn't that the goal for all of us?
  • I have been ridiculed for losing my job like I deserve it because I sold the name for so much? I don't see the connection
  • My job as an IT manager was garbage and that's all I could get with my low IQ? (I have a degree and was summa cum laude - look it up if you don't know)
  • I shouldn't talk about my sales
  • I left money on the table
  • I didn't get enough money
  • I ripped off the buyer
  • I rip people off by offering low prices for names I want to buy. Um - yes. Who pays full retail for anything they want to resell? I am not an end user. I don't force anyone to sell me anything. If you don't like the price we shake hands and walk away.
  • I had a broker who couldn't get an offer on two domains I hired him to sell, one of them hatred.com, attempting to insult me with a goose and duck reference? He also tried to impress me with his sales this year (none of them mine)
So again, this post will fill with haters and arguments. I am asking that you please refrain from saying anything negative. None of you know me personally and I have never ever stolen anything from any of you.
I am sad for this community, you have no idea what kind of scum is lurking here.
Instead of insulting me for whatever reason you deem necessary - go out and sell some names to end users. Its that simple, stop using me as way to escape the reality of your poor or low sales. Start sending emails and cold calling, that's what I do and it works.
I was trying to help you - all of you! Its that simple, and you turned it into a circus of hell. Go back and read the article and try to replicate.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Milo had the name redirecting to his Amazon book sale for a while, not sure what happened.

It still redirects to Milo's Amazon page.

Maybe it's not jealousy but more related to the approach you documented and the final result:

Maybe people feel that it wasn't good karma to basically respond to a group of Civil Rights lawyers that they should pay through the nose or you could end up making money by selling it to a hate group that they are fighting against. And then to add insult to injury -- end up fulfilling that threat directly by selling it to a piece of sh*t human hate-mongerer.

Well done! Bravo!

But but but but.... you just sold a name to a professional provocateur ...

Congratulations on your sale.
Its called sales! I will not apologize for using every possible legal way to make a sale. That's how you make money.

What I learned this week
  • Don't believe the amount sellers say they have invested in a domain unless you can verify it.
  • Outbound PAYS BIG
Lets be clear - I tried and would have sold that name here and on twitter for 7K all day long and nobody wanted it. I got sick and tired of playing games with low ball sales and decided to learn how to go out and market. It worked - now I need to replicate that

I'm very thankful for @uglydork sharing the details of the sale. (sincerely)

BUT --- I don't think whats being uncovered is how it's done. Maybe I'm wrong, but if you tell your buyer you put $X into a domain, when really you put $Y (Y = less) Can the seller legally break the sales agreement if its uncovered the buyer purchased the domain under falsified information from the seller?
Have you ever bought a car?

Some people like to play detective and discredit like the world is lying. I have no reason to lie - $150,000 reasons

Hold up. Wait a minute... I was defending you here - stating the domain has been redirected to Milo's amazon book prerelease since at least the NamePros thread about the sale. (not trying to discredit your sale)

Also can't say I'm a huge fan of breaking the gentlemens agreement you mentioned of not releasing the sale details until the buyer launched his website.

To my knowledge, the domain has been redirected to Milo's new book since the release of the sale.

Great. It wasn't the case yesterday I don't think.

I checked my browser history. As of 5:44 AM EST (6/26), the domain redirected to Milos book sale on Amazon.

The story was released on NamePros by @Addison at 3:49 AM (6/26).

I was just making a statement

Sure you would! $7k > $4k. That's $3k profit in a few months! The question is would you have sold it for what you paid for as you stated it was what you had in the domain when trying to sell at $9.5k.

Mentioned hundreds of times by NP members already ---- well played!

Have you ever bought a car?

Yes, and if the salesman says I'm paying what he has put into it (parts/repairs + initial purchase) than I don't expect to pay for his time trying to sell me it. I expect to be getting a deal and the salesman calls it a wash by not losing money.

So you think you are paying for the price of metal only? Destination charges and holding costs are part of that deal

What --- why even compare this to a car???

You didn't have to ship the domain, and if you did that's what escrow fee's are for. Storing a domain costs $9/year. You didn't have to get under a hood and work.

Generally when somebody says they're looking to get what they got into it, it means they don't want to take a monetary loss; thus selling it for however much money they're invested. Unless their time is calculated REPAIRING, then why should the seller be paid for their time if all they're trying to do is "get what they have put into it."

It appears we're going to have to agree to disagree. I hope you didn't tell Milo you had more than $4k put into it. Luckily (for Milo and any prospective np buyer) nobody bought it when you said you had $9k put into it --- because IMO that would be a shady way to operate.

You can call it what you want - a sale is a sale. the buyer received the goods he paid for at a price he found fair.
You sell the sizzle not the steak. Nobody has to agree with my tactics and I am comfortable with that.

If I buy some jewelry for $4,000 as an investment, is it ethical for me to market it as I have $9k put into it?

What happens when the buyer finds out the homie hookup included a $5k markup from the initial purchase price? This marketing tactic might be a loophole for the buyer to get a refund in litigation. Disclaimer: I'm not a lawyer

Leaving this topic to lawyers - I have no idea

I'll sort out a list over the next few days. Do you want names like s*domised.com?

Using a broker might be the best way for me to sell names. I'm getting too involved in politics and Brexit to give enough time to domaining.

I still find time to look for a few names though. :)

Im still happy for you. It is surprising to read what you have encountered recently on the forum. I have had a very positive experience, and you are one of those bright spots. Haters hate. Thats what they do. I am certain your story has done more inspiring than even you can imagine. Just be true to you. Report the harassment and shake it off. 150k deals don't grow on trees, so ya know it has to be envy and jealousy.

Keep up the work my man!

What I've learnt in the last week is that I'm spending too much time on the boards. :)

I need to regulate my time better as well.

The problem is that some domainers are fun, and I keep getting ideas for sites not to develop. :)

NP needs to add an "ignore thread" option.

I actually have one poster on ignore. For the NP posters that know me, (no one really knows me, but Ive interacted with a bunch here) think about what kind of a person it takes to get on my ignore list?

Im not saying I am Mother Theresa, but imagine being on her ignore list:)

This is my favorite - received it today via PM:

"Its apparent to me that you have to live your life with a sub 120 IQ. Probably the reason you ended up in IT support. Thats really the worst insult I can come up with, but I am pretty sure it will wash of your feathers as the goose you are."

Its funny because I am an IT manager - I don't fix anything anymore. I picture him thinking I am some zit faced 19 year old installing printers for customers.

Hope you've reported them

It is hillarious to me that someone commented on IQ! Anyone with an average IQ could explain and understand this. Take the entire population. Put them on a bell curve. MOST people will be average and below. Period! 120 is above average. I could say to all 1 million users from NP, oh you are not as smart as me, your IQ is below 120! Unless the NP community was some type of anomaly, Id like be correct 67% percent of the time . . . or so! Sheesh, the things people say!
