Well the one thing I do know mate is that I could post lots of compelling facts that suggest the future is going a certain way but there would be no point because as long as I say it is going to be called mixed reality everyone will be like "impossible" lol.
That guy talked about personally knowing what occulus are working on in it's labs for the the future and he made reference to mixed reality.
He had absolutely no reason to do this, some might say he could get in trouble from zuck himself using the wrong term because it could be seen as promoting a competitor.
The Hololens 2 and Magic Leap are not 10 - 20 years away. Perfect mixed reality might be but Hololens 2 and Magic Leap will be ready in a couple of years.
Microsoft didn't just create a mixed reality platform "Windows" on probably the biggest OS platform so that people could use a VR headset and play around with snapchat like features.
They did it because they are looking beyond 2017 - 2018.
Don't get me wrong I am as chuffed as most by Facebooks announcement but it was something I was half expecting. In the same way I am expecting Apple to announce an AR plan. But that doesn"t mean that I don't see further plans developing where tech is pushed beyond individual VR or AR.
AR is possible in 2017. High quality mixed reality is not.
So in short if anyone mentions the future really is heading in the direction where elements of AR & VR will meet/merge /MAKE LOVE (however you wan't to describe it lol) that is what I am looking at.
But by the logic that I keep hearing on this forum maybe I have got my logic back to front. Because what makes sense to most people is:
What shall we call the tech that combines elements of VR & AR to create a new experience? I know we will call it either VR or AR
VR + AR = JUST VR
VR + AR = JUST AR
VR + AR = Another keyword
Good luck to everyone as always, I hope we all make a profit from VR & AR & whatever the future brings us
