I have to laugh at your persistence, MR is definitely a selling point but if you think the coming world of 'Augment Reality' is going to ignore such a useful device then I suggest you do some more research.
@doubleU
Sorry if it came across as though I am trying to protect the "MR" term and if it also came across that I need to be persistent. I hope VR, AR, MR, Holo and a few other terms all bring us domainers some great ROI because I am invested across a diverse portfolio myself.
I wish everyone the best of luck! Investing in VR, AR + MR is a smart thing to do imo so in no way am I trying to put any keywords or tech down.
Honest truth is I am a good guy, I was just trying to potentially help a few people out because the press AR is getting at the moment due to the buzz surrounding "Pokemon Go" is distracting from the tactical approach many big companies are starting to take behind the scenes, two examples being Microsoft & Apple. This is not what I personally want to happen/not to happen, just an observation based on the trends I am seeing happen behind the scenes.
Microsoft are taking another approach which is not as you put it "but if you think the coming world of 'Augmented Reality' is going to ignore such a useful device then I suggest you do some more research".
Robert Scoble and UploadVR have great access to this behind the scenes information and strategies the industry is taking so I am going to use some important quotes from a live conversation this weekend (as this information is pretty current) to try and show this is not my view, but a move that companies such as Microsoft who we were talking about are taking. The point is companies are changing their focus and marketing strategy to mixed reality because it combines both VR + AR! (VR + AR = MR). Companies are starting to understand that marketing themselves as Mixed Reality is basically the smart thing to do because they are saying our device can do VR, AR & MR:
Rob Scoble: Microsoft's execs already told me they are betting 100% on mixed reality (with its
Microsoft HoloLens product). The strategy at Microsoft is "Cloud + Hololens." That's it. The entirety of a $455 billion company is betting on mixed reality.
Rob Scoble: Apple is going to bring us a mixed reality iPhone and, within a couple of years, mixed reality glasses to compete with Hololens and Magic Leap.
Apple's entrance into this new world is like when IBM came into the personal computing world. It is that important.
If I were at Facebook I'd get the entire Oculus team to pivot. Toward mixed reality glasses.
This whole basket of things also puts into context the statements that Tim Cook has been making lately which basically are: AR is more important than VR, even though VR is important.
Mixed reality will do all of this.
Most of us will be wearing mixed reality glasses three to four years from now, whether from Microsoft, Magic Leap, Apple, Amazon, Meta, or something from China (expect to see new brands evolve, just like DJI is now the biggest drone manufacturer).
Rob Scoble to Fred Davis (UploadVR): I have been quite consistent. MR=AR+VR.
Now you are getting it.
Fred Davis (UploadVR): Robert Scoble, completely agree with you that MR=AR+VR. In fact, that's the very definition of MR.
User: VR is a final tech - one that won't be replaced by something more advanced.
Rob Scoble reply: Almost Gerald. If you say "mixed reality" then I will agree with you.
User: What's the difference between AR and mixed reality?
Rob Scoble reply: Much deeper interaction with the real world.
